I played it on 360 and I'll give it a go on PC later today to see how similar they are. Really didn't like it - it was straight up annoying not to be able to use the inventory or alter my character, why the hell not? The combat was really spammy, I actually wished it had autoattack because it just felt stupid to be sitting there doing nothing but hammering on A (not that sitting there doing literally nothing would have been a lot more compelling but I really felt silly just wailing on it) - the way the game has you playing (close in camera etc) makes it seem like there should be some sort of block move in there too but there isn't, which just further highlights how little I'm actually doing in a fight.
Overall though, it just seemed like they'd moved the game in the mass effect, cinematic direction (which I don't have a problem with in theory) but they've kept a lot of the stuff that only just flew in Dragon Age Origins because it was a more traditional party based 'thing' - I'm talking about stilted animations and pretty meh voice acting - maybe a parallel is if you had the kind of jank only normally found in an open-world game, in a CoD game?
So yeah, I think I'm gonna pass it over for now
Dragon Age II
Game » consists of 16 releases. Released Mar 08, 2011
This sequel to Dragon Age: Origins features faster combat, a new art style, and a brand new, fully voiced main character named Hawke.
Dragon Age 2 Demo, what are you playing the Demo on?
" @wasteguru said:Around six o clock. Pretty sure it's half past six PST now." Bioware said the PC version won't be up till 9 PST. "Forgive my lazieness and stupidity but how many hours until then? Living in Sweden here "
While I did recently get a new PC, opening up a huge library of games I missed, I still need to replace the graphics card. So I'll just be checking out both console versions.
Well, I can try the PC version just for kicks; I know it won't run very well.
Just finished the 360 version. Not exactly my cup of tea, but hardly terrible. Got a strange Final Fantasy 12 vibe combat-wise. I do like the overall new art direction, DAO was a great looking game, but was kinda generic fantasy looking. This looks like the graphics match the concept art better. I will say this though, the game has a lot of silver foxes, between Flemeth and Garreth's Mom. Ladies know how to keep fit in Ferelden :)
Oh, and it looks like the demo version you play unlocks the bonus item only on that version, so I'm gonna have to play the PC version to it looks like, cause as it stands that's the version I'm probably getting.
Tried it on Xbox.
I'm not liking the Darkspawn models, they look like skeletons or something, but not at all like what they were in Origins.
The combat's fun I guess, bashing A gives you a sense of doing something (I was often idling while cooldowns ticked in Origins) and the activated skills (Backstab, Evade) are pretty cool.
I just hope it stays fun on the higher settings, I mean bashing A can get pretty tiresome if one dude takes forever to murder.
I tried the demo on xbox. Hmm I'm not especially liking the darkspawns new look, other than that I liked what I've seen so far
Just finished the 360 demo. I agree that the new darkspawn design sucks, but the rest of the game looks really good! I'm actually surprised at how good it looks.
Also I can't believe how much they've improved the interface. So much better than it was before!
The combat is not bad either, but I felt like your attacks were doing too little damage. Though that might be cause that character was underspec'd and underequiped.
One more thing I noticed is that you don't need to learn a bunch of garbage spells before you can learn haste, You can jump straight from heal to it! Also I'm really digging how they retooled some of the other abilities as well.
Finally, I noticed some stuttering, especially in cutscenes. Hopefully that's just a demo thing, cause it was kinda annoying.
I'm getting the 360 demo as we speak. I love the 360's background downloading, especially for really large demos and games. I wake up, queue up downloads on xbox.com, turn on the machine, turn off the machine a minute later, and I don't have to worry about leaving it on all day. I can even check on xbox.com to see if the downloads have finished or are still going.
Nice. If the demo is really released at 9:00, I'll have time to start the download before class, and play it after! Hurray!
" How big is the demo 2 gigs like the mass effect 2 one? "Yeah, I've heard it's supposed to be.

I just finished the 360 demo and it's a vast improvement across the board from the first game.
The general look is actually interesting and I'm really liking the new UI. It's very basic, but it looks great. I did find myself more involved when combat started and now the attacks actually have some weight to them. The one thing I wasn't totally sold on was the voice acting, which is pretty hit and miss for me, mainly Hawke if I'm honest. Either way I still really liked it and immediately preordered it.
PS. lady Hawke is pretty damn smexy ... ^_~
I just finished the demo as a rogue.
Really underwhelmed. I'm not feeling the Mass Effect 2 overhaul they did to the game and I really hope this demo doesn't represent how the main game will feel.
Will play through as a warrior and mage later, maybe try an archer type rogue as well.
Edit: Also, rogue was boring as hell. I hit A and do minimal damage for most of the demo and the parts where I have more than 1 or 2 specials, I felt like my only my specials did any damage at all.
And to be fair, the UI is cleaner which is nice.
PC is up. BRINGITTT!!!

Gah, beat me to it!
They should have made a challenge out of it. Instead of one million downloads, they should have offered the stuff if the PC players could keep the demo site overloaded for at least an hour. :P
*edit* seems the more direct link to the file is easier to reach than going through the demo page.
Great.. wish for a good torrent right now. Downloading at a good 4mb/s but a bit in it goes down to 400k and then drops the download about halfway in.
"My guess is they didn't want to bring all the weapon/armor files into the demo.Xbox 360.
"
And i really enjoyed the demo, but not the jump around scenes in it. I got disoriented with my skills and tactics that way. And why the hell is the inventory locked?
Or, perhaps it'll be day one dlc to unlock the inventory! >.<
Downloading demo on my PC right now! When I pre-ordered Dragon Age II, I didn't have a PC so I'll be playing the game on my 360. If I end up really liking it on PC, I may get that down the road but I'm not too worried about it.
I just tried out the Xbox demo and i'm pretty sure i'll be playing the PC version when the game comes out. I never played the console version of Origins so i can't really compare the two but if it involved the same "mash the A button to do a default attack" then i'm glad i bought the PC version.
How different is the combat in DA2 from Origins on consoles exactly?
I'm live streaming my playthrough of the PC demo for anyone interested. Check it http://www.livestream.com/gotloveforgames
PS3, and since I'm in the UK I'll have to wait till tomorrow. It's an easy wait, though, for sure since I've seen all of what the demo offers via video. The demo itself is looking to be pretty crappy anywhoo, with no character customisation, armour management, nor even the ability to set auto-attack on.
I just finished playing the demo as a rouge and i really didn't care for the combat, i felt like pressing A over and over (with some abilities thrown in) wasn't that great. The last battle against the guy in the chantry, was better since i had some grasp of the abilities. Maybe the Rouge just moves to fast or i'm trying to press A too fast but it wasn't great. I'll need to spend more time figuring out these abilities or something. It just seemed like i was dinking away at nomal darkspawn then telporting behind to do backstabs. Does anyone know if I'm doing more damage when i'm attacking from behind like in DAO?
Now i'm playing as a warrior and thats a bit more fun. The moves just take enemies out easily. Maybe i'll be a warrior from now on.
I seriously can't download the demo. It's hard to get to the demo site and when trying to download it, I'll just get speed the first ten percent, after that it just crawls until the download finishes with the file being not more than half the size..
Yeah, their servers are getting railed. I usually download at 2 megs a second or so, but I'm getting about 200kb/s max. It's like I'm really living in 2003 again." Edit: just learned you can turn auto attack back on in the full console version, good to know.
I'm getting it on 360 and PC. Currently when I try to download it on the PC it sits at 0.0 MB downloaded... I think I'll just try to download it later.
" http://www.gamershell.com/download_70000_start.html?19:43:21 - gamershell has put up a torrent for the demo. "Need moar seeders! :P
"Steam server is currently too busy"" TOTAL WAR SHOUGUN 2 DEMO ON STEAM!!!!!! woot :) "
Gnaaah!! It's obviously impossible to get a demo today! :P
