What? People didn't use companions in Fallout 3? Unless you were playing evil, why in the shit would you not use Fawkes?

A Sinful First Look At Fallout: New Vegas
Fallout 3 is one of my favourite games of this generation, so I'm definitely looking forward to this.
Hardcore mode sounds like how I was trying to play F3. I never used quick travel, so when i was low on health, and needed to trek across the wasteland, there was a serious sense of danger. This new mode will add to that, and I can't wait!
Well-
As a guy who played through fallout 3 once vanilla, then 4 more times with 250 mods running, I can safely say I'm pretty stoked. Especially about being in the same engine. Yeah, Fallout 3 was buggy as hell. But this means the modding community will have less work to do in learning the ropes with a new engine. Fook 2 and FWE anyone?
Sounds like Fallout 3 plus some major improvements in a new setting.
I think the main reason I want to play Hardcore mode is because of the ammo limitation. In fallout 3 you could just find so much ammo half way through the game that you never had to worry about running out, and you could carry virtually an unlimited amount of it. And the challenge was diminished greatly once you reached that point.
Also at a certain point you just have a billion stimpacks and never had to worry about dying. Hopefully the dehydration and broken limbs add a little more challenge to that point of the game as well.
I just hope they don't mess it up some how. It looked good from what i saw, but why do they have to tell you how the game starts. It's not really bad, but i just don't like to not know about all the places and mission outlines in it before I play the game. Overall I think it will be good just not as new feeling as Fallout 3 felt.
I loved Fallout 3. Then I played Mass Effect. Then I was like "Bethesda doesn't know what the hell they're doing". Also, the lack of shadows disturbs me.
So if the game sucks, people can't say "Well Obsidian would've done it better" or "Obsidian should've done it" because they did, and that company is composed of a bunch of people who worked on the original 2 games.
You guys really need to make the "First!" quest not impossible to get. I'm not going to F5 the homepage for hours just to complete the dumb thing. :S
Will the game be less Janky? Will the combat be less terrible? If either of those is yes, then count me on board.
It sounds like they're taking the open world goodness of Fallout 3, adding in a bit of Bioware style character interaction, and some better writing and a darker sense of humor. Pretty much exactly what I would want from an RPG. Fallout 3 was good, but after Dragon Age I've had a hard time going back, because the story and characterization just don't seem up to par anymore.
Part of me feels like I'm not even done with Fallout 3.
The rest of me can't wait, and having Obsidian at the helm just makes it that much more interesting.
WOOOOOOO hope they DLC this up like fallout 3, will have to get watever hardcore achievement there is drinking water and managing a thirst like in deadly prem seems cool it could be cooler in the fallout world . NCR FOREVER!
FUCK YEAH! Hardcore difficulty sounds like it will really make the wasteland a much more interesting place. I hope sleep and hunger play a much more significant role as well. Bring it on.
god the graphics look EXACTLY the same, fallout 3 has not aged well in any case. whether it be graphics or gameplay. also i hope it isn't as easy to completely break quests like you could in fallout 3
I'm not impressed. I want the old fallout back. Not oblivianwithguns: new vegas. Fallout 3 was okay, but thats about it. I have a feeling that most of the true fallout fans will be disappointed by this.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see....
I'm looking forward to this. The hardcore mode sounds interesting and I like the ability to toggle it off or on.
" Will the game be less Janky? Will the combat be less terrible? If either of those is yes, then count me on board. "The article says they want to make the combat more 'responsive' so let's hope that they can deliver. I loved Fallout 3 - but certainly not for the combat mechanics.
I find it sad that you consider yourself a gameophile without playing the original Fallout games, Brad. What a sheltered childhood you must have had.
At first, I was excited - the series made a full circle, and the creative minds behind the originals are finally doing a follow-up.
Then I've realised that those guys are in Obsidian. Obsidian has yet to make a game with a brilliant story and concept that isn't half-assed, unfinished and bugged.
Also, I find it funny that the utterly ridiculous concept of curing broken bones with stimpacks and resting for an hour mid-battle isn't fixed. Yeah, I know, the F1 & 2 method is back in Hardcore mode, but it's very ironic, given the fact that these guys made it an integral part of the gameplay in the first two games and now it's an optional feature.
Also, how old is Brad? He never played Fallout 1 and 2, never seen Twin Peaks, etc. Nothing bad in it, but he sounds at points like the main character from Bones - she's borderline Asperger, she hears rap the first time when she's 30+ and gets excited every time she gets a fucking obvious and 10 years old pop-culture reference.
