Square Enix didn't miss their shot... again

Final Fantasy XII is another chapter of the popular Japanese RPG game. From the beggining, it had the best visual design on the characters. This time it's back with an all new chapter, an all new story and a completely different battle system that makes it even more exciting.

Final Fantasy XII is set within the land of Ivalice during an age of the magic and the magnificent airships. You start the game with a short segment that shows the unite of Princess Ashe of Dalmasca and Prince Rasler of Nabradia. It is happening in Dalmasca's main city of Rabanastre. In that time, there is war in the universe and the Dalmascan king, Raminas, is forced to sign a treaty of surrender. Basch, one of the leading knights and Rex, a 17 year old child who goes with them, are after the kings castle to save the king, when Basch kills both the king and Rex because he can't stand the surrender of Dalmasca.

After that pilot chapter, the actuall game begins. You play with Vaan, Rex's younger brother who is a citizen in Rabanastre, who wishes to become a sky pirate one day. You and your friend Penelo go on adventures through the city and out of it.

In the game, you get to play with six playable characters: Vaan, an energetic orphan of Rabanastre who dreams of becoming a sky pirate; Ashe, a determined princess of Dalmasca who lost her husband in the Archadian invasion; Basch, a disgraced knight of Dalmasca charged with treason for slaying the king; Balthier, a gentlemanly sky pirate who pilots his airship, the Strahl; Fran, Balthier's partner and a Viera exile whose knowledge extends to legends and myths; and Penelo, Vaan's childhood friend who accompanies him in journeys to keep an eye over him.

This chapter also introduces a new battle system. Once you get used to it, it is really easy to use. It is based on playing with a party and controlling multiple members of your team at once. You first select the player you're going to do the action with, and then another player or npc who will take the action (attack, magic, cure, steal).

There are two types of magic in Final Fantasy XII, white magic and black magic. White magic is usually based to powers like cure and protect, and black magic powers can be skills like blizzard attack, fire attack etc.

The visual designs are also confirming that this is a game that has it all. The Japanese designers did a great job like always. Although Vaan and his friend look a bit like girls, all the characters and their action animations are made really carefull.

In technical view, I haven't experienced any problems though you can sometimes wait for the loading times a few seconds, which is pretty normal.
As an overview, Final Fantasy XII is a great, revolutionarry game to this old franchise, and it is worth buying for any JRPG lover.

      Sorely Underrated and Underappreciated 0

Final Fantasy XII is the first single-player game in the long-running Japanese RPG series to diverge from the classic turn-based combat and take a more innovative Western approach to RPG gameplay.  Drawing inspiration from such titles as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, World of Warcraft, the original Baldur's Gate series on PC, as well as past Final Fantasy titles, Final Fantasy XII creates a unique play experience that combines the best of traditional Japanese RPG's and Western PC RPG's...

The best game in the series 0

When discussing FFXII, I occasionally see criticism for how it "didn't feel like a Final Fantasy game".This has always confused me. I must admit, I don't truly understand what is necessary to be a Final Fantasy game other than the title. Looking at the series as a whole, the only connections I can find between them are purely superficial ones, such as crystals, chocobos, airships, and a guy named Cid. FFXII has all of these, so I don't understand the conflict. That said, I can accept the possibi...
