Our Officially Unofficial Feud With GamesRadar (They're So Dead)
TDar is better than any podcast on the web (construtive critsism)
I just listened to the podcast and go talkradar sucks what do they think there howard stern or something?
"wat is da name of da song in da backround of da video"
It's called "Bow Down" by Westside Connection
"Why do people have such a difficult time understanding that game reviews are just opinions. They are going to differ, big deal. You can't expect to agree with every single one of them. Move on...Dood...chill out. It's all in fun, fool! PAP PAP!!!
And hurray for forum lemmings that are constantly trying to start controversy. >_>"
I just listened to the original podcast where they're slating GiantBomb for giving it 100%. One of the first things the guy says "...I haven't read the review, but..."
Does this mean that the feud with GameSpot is over?
Or is this feud in addition to that feud?
Jesus, why even sink yourself down to their level? They remind of these really really annoying radio DJ's we have on the radio here.
Sound quality of their podast is crap too. F*cking amateurs.
I like da Giant Bomb kthx.
Seriously, the bombcast makes me laugh every week, I really look forward to listening to it Wednesday morning at work. Please keep up the great work guys.
"Dude, these guys took a gun and put a chainsaw on it. DON'T PLAY IT." -Jeff
I laughed my ass off when that was on the thanksgiving week bombcast. Great stuff.
Mmmm. Well this tiff (pretend or otherwise) can only end up being a bit embarassing for all concerned.
Regardless, what people have to keep in mind with the GB rating system is that (for some reason) it's based on 'absence of problems', rather than 'inclusion of awesomeness'. It seems to me that any given game starts on 5 stars and will get that so long as the developers haven't dropped the ball on something.
The 5 star description is "Recommend without reservation" - in other words, "You should play this because there isn't anything wrong with it." I don't think there's any question that the GB reviewers genuinely believe that each game they 5 star meets that requirement - it's just that it's not a very a high target for a game to hit.
Personally, my preference would be that a 5 star rating should be reserved for games that are solid, obviously, but also bring something new to the table (COD 4's multiplayer structure say) or that take an existing concept and do it to a much higher standard than it's current competition (Bioshock's atmosphere / art / story for example). I would get far more from a rating system that differentiates between the truly outstanding and the (much more common) 'there's nothing wrong with it' games.
Take Battlefield: Bad Company for example - it's a solid game, but does it bring anything that I haven't already had from a dozen other games just like it? Not really. I feel you could probably make a similar argument for a handful of other 5 starred games on the list.
Given that GB already cherrypicks the games it reviews - therefore making 1* virtually redundant - I feel that they could toughen up the 5* rating without cramping the rest of their scale. I suspect most people (that care enough to frequent sites like this), care more about easily identifying the creme de la creme than they do about distinguishing between the bad and the terrible (neither of which they will ever buy anyway).
Integrity plainly isn't the issue - integrity is the very reason most of us initially chose to come here in the first place. The rating system may be too forgiving, but the scores given do match the current rating descriptions.
That said, the content of the review itself is infinitely more important to me - at least here I can read or watch a review without feeling like some smarmy salesman (who started gaming when Wipeout or GTA 3 made it ok to do so) is just quoting the back of the box at me verbatim.
ROFL, that video was awesome. Loved the Kevin VanOrd and Hillary Goldstein references.
Time for Giant Bomb to kick some Games Radar @$$.
Thats one of the best video i've ever seen. Dude in the background with the GiantBomb shirt as a bandana made it official
