" I remember a video game being played (PS maybe?) in Big Daddy "Ha I remember that. It was Twisted Metal on PS.
Video Game Appearances In Film - A Community Compilation Project
No one's mentioned this and I thought it was pretty interesting.
In one episode of Lost, two terrorists are playing Half-Life on the Dreamcast.
" Fake PSP game 'Heaven Vs Hell' Best Friends Forever - South Park (sidenote, Kenny reaches level 60) "I think that was based on "Lord of the Rings: Tactics", what they showed of it was very similar to that game and the episode was shown only a few weeks after the game was released.
Anyway: The Simpsons references Pong and many fake games that are tributes to others (Bonestorm = Mortal Kombat).
2) Role Models (2008) => some Soccer game...
3) Superbad (2007) => " The Getaway: Black Monday"
4) The Break Up (2006) => some American Football game
5) The Break Up (2006) => " GTA San Andreas"
6) Disturbia (2007) => " Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter" on XBox 360 Live
7) Grandma's Boy (2006) => has TONS of games in it.. its about video games, i cant document it
8) Accepted (2006) => some First Person Shooter on Co-Op
If we are going to include fictional games, how about that arcade racer Ricky Bobby was playing in Talladega Nights?" It's a fictional game, but in The Wrestler, there's a scene where Mickey Rourke's character is playing 'Wrestle Jam' with some kid. It's this old 8-bit wrestling game on the NES, which stars himself during his prime.
Kotaku actually had a really nice article written about it.As for other things, i recall in TANG that the Double Dragon movie featured an arcade machine with the game running on it, which of course some dude then got thrown into. "
Also, I dont know if these have been said yet, but Punch out (i think) was in 500 days of Summer, and Heavenly Sword was played in Heroes. Tropic Thunder featured a play of Wii Sports Tennis.
there was an episode of the shield where two kids where sitting on a bench playing on 2 pikachu yellow game boy colours. One didn't have a game in it though lol Cant recall what episode sadly. Think it was in season 4 or 5.
Also there is this little show called South Park. They did this one show about some game called World of Warcraft. I think they made the game up thought, so idk if it fits into this thread.
" About 30 minutes into Bring it On (2000) Justin Shipman (Cody McMains) who is Torrance (Kristen Dunst) Shipman's annoying little brother is arguing with her in their living room. He is seen to be playing what I believe is Twisted Metal on a Playstation 1. There are several close up shots of him with the game controller and of the screen during the scene. I can't find any video online of the scene, but if I do, I'll add photos to this post.dude I totally forgot about this. One of the funniest things I've seen in a cartoon. I was crying the first time I saw this
And, if we are counting obvious referrences to games in cartoons, then in the Powerpuff Girls episode "Child Fearing" the Mayor is seen playing a Zelda game on what is definitely an N64. In fact it looks as if the animators just pasted a picture of an actual N64 into the frame.
"
"In an episode of The Simpsons where Lisa is pretending to be sick to miss school you can see her playing a parody of Crash Bandicoot called Dash Dingo. "
Shit like that is why I hate Simpsons, dumbass parodies.
"Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks was shown in Crank: High Voltage."
I remember that, I laughed.
World of Warcraft in The Day the Earth Stood Still, either Halo 3 or GeoW in Shia Lebouf movie where he's spying on his neighbors, Disturbia I think.
" I'm ashamed to say it, but in the first Charlie's Angels movie some kids are playing Final Fantasy VIII. "This is what first popped into my mind, I only remember it so vividly because it was funny seeing a kid pressing several buttons a second and going crazy on his controller while summoning a GF xD
Think this has already been mentioned but there's one episode of the I.T Crowd where they play Guitar Hero. But Guitar Hero is in a lot of movies and TV series so it's no real surprise.
i already mentioned that with a screenshot :" Tom clancys G.R.A.W in Disturbia "
6) Disturbia (2007) => " Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter" on XBox 360 Live
Robocop is a badass movie, and for this reason everybody should own a copy of it. Robocop 2, however, is an overlit and gaudy piece of crap that does way too much wrong with the story and character. It's kinda like Saved by the Bell set in a dystopian future. Accordingly, I don't own it. I did, however, remember that it had arcade cabinets in it somewhere, and I was just waiting for the film to be shown on TV so I could see if my memory was faulty. Nope, there they are! Heaps of Data East cabinets, which is not that surprising because they made the Robocop arcade game.
The games that appear in Robocop 2 are:
- Bad Dudes
- The Real Ghostbusters
- Sly Spy
- Midnight Resistance (man, I used to love that game in the arcades - hooray for twisty knobs!)
There was another one, but didn't jot it down in time and have since forgotten it. Ahhh, well. Maybe next time Robo2 is on the telly. Ugh, which means I have to watch it again.
I see a LOT of repeats while looking at this thread...I think a master list in the first post would help clear up some things, personally.
As for games in movies, here is an obscure one, sadly I can't find any pictures of it.
In the movie Beethoven, the one with the dog, of course. Two of the kids were playing "Super Mario Bros 3" on the NES. One was using the power glove in it too, another little bit for you to add to the collection.
Here's one that hasn't been mentioned. In the movie The Score a computer hacker was playing Quake 3.
I thought it was a mega drive controller he was using though." the_chojin99 said:
In Mallrats the guy was playing on a hocky game but i wouldent be able to name the actual game. ... [more]
That was NHL All-Star Hockey for the Saturn. I'm a huge Kevin Smith fan. "
In the TV series Spaced (british TV) a ps1 is always being played and the game being used as part of a joke set up.
In A Few Good Men, Tom Cruise's character has an NES on top of his T.V. while he watches baseball. It's not a game per se, but that movie is old. I couldn't find a screenshot anywhere. Too bad.
In Grosse Pointe Blank, the clerk at the Ultimart was playing an arcade version of Doom 2, which I don't believe was ever actually in an arcade box :)
"NHL All-Star Hockey '95 for the GENESIS, sir. It would seem we don't have NHL All-Star Hockey '95 in our database...the_chojin99 said:That was NHL All-Star Hockey for the Saturn. can't find footage of it but there is an episode of Entourage which features Fight Night Round 3 heavily.
Turtle plays it through the episode and attends an EA hosted tournament
here are some pictures for the scene, previously mentioned, in Big Daddy, where Julian(aka Frankenstein) is playing Twisted Metal.
Call of Duty: United Offensive in The Office
If anyone missed it, you guys should really watch The Office vid (above) that SuperJoe posted on page 2. It's one of my favorite scenes from the show.
The Zelda reference in Powerpuff Girls mentioned before is one of my favorite videogame references. Man, Powerpuff Girls is so gooood
" In Grosse Pointe Blank, the clerk at the Ultimart was playing an arcade version of Doom 2, which I don't believe was ever actually in an arcade box :)Already got that one (complete with vid) covered on page 2 of the thread. Good to see someone else watched that flick, though!
Couldn't find an image of the actual game, but it's there. "
" I remember on Malcom in the middle they were playing on a . And I think i remember an episode of Two and a Half men where they go to a store to buy a Halo game. "
yea. Reese said something like, I cant believe no one was there! I almost beat sub zero. To wich Hal (father) replies "thats ridiculous no one beats sub-zero"
I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned these yet. Sorry I have no Pics.
In Couples Retreat there was a Guitar Hero
In Grandma's Boys there was a DDR
and last but not least in the movie Surf Ninjas there was a Game Gear ( if I remember right) that a little boy was able to use to manipulate reality, or atleast thats what it seemed like he was doing.
As well as Jack Black, Enemy of the State features a TurboExpres, the portable TurboGrafx machine. Not only that, but it misrepresents it as a device that can store and play recorded video footage. Yay Hollywood!
