What will be Giant Bomb's GOTY 2016?

Something stupid.

Jeff and Brad are firmly in the Doom camp, and I don't think that anyone else will feel all that strongly about anything else to really challenge them on it. Unless we get a dark horse released in the next few months (which I doubt), expect Doom as GB GotY 2016.

It will be DOOM. Let's be serious here for a minute. It'll be DOOM.

I just realised that Mafia 3 and Forza Horizon 3 are not in the list....they'd be good outside shots I reckon.

DOOM has to be it. It was just pure joy to play, the story was actually rad, the entire thing was rad. Even with sub-par multiplayer, that wasn't what most people wanted from DOOM anyway, and the single player experience is just so amazing.

Anything else than DOOM would be... well it's their GOTY, but I mean... come on...

They all reaaaaally like Doom. The Witness is the only other one I can remember that much positivity around.

Most likely DOOM, they are very sweet on DOOM right now.

Doom, or secret dark horse possibility Hitman, since Brad, Dan, Jeff, and Vinny have all had some pretty positive experiences with it, either playing or advising.

I don't know, Dishonored 2 looks really great.

Also these lists are always premature. We're judging games that have come out vs games that haven't.

Reviewing that list of games, I noted its been a pretty boring year for games for me personally. Only thing on that list I really dug was Stardew Valley.

Note: Stardew Valley is the only thing I played on this list.

3. Overwatch

And even though only Brad and Dan has played it. Hitman is going to make it in the top 10 as well.

Unless they really like Dishonored 2, I think its definitely gonna be Doom. Maybe a slim outside chance of Overwatch.

The Witness seems more likely headed to the honorary 10-spot reserved for "This is the big game we're supposed to like, and we did sort of like it, but we didn't love it and it didn't stick with us."

2016 has been a strong year so far when it comes to good games. Not a good year for anything else but man the games have been great.

Either Doom, Overwatch or Hitman so far. I voted Overwatch but it'll probably be Doom.

That way that Jeff and Brad speak of DOOM I have to believe at this point it will be GOTY 2016. But I want Hitman up near the top of that list also.

Yeah I think The Witness was much-liked by at least Jeff and Brad....I do get the sense that both would lean towards Doom ultimately though.

Having played a lot of both, I'm impaled on the fence myself, difficult to choose between the two for my GOTY.

Betting money's on DOOM. I'd love for Dishonored 2 or Civ 6 to come outta nowhere and steal the crown, as that'd imply they are masterpieces, but let's be real, it's going to be DOOM.

It's also the right choice. What a wonderful game. Best shooter I've played in years (even better than Wolfenstein TNO).

Smart money on DOOM for sure. They conquered all the obstacles that usually bog a game down (multiple redesigns, handling a beloved older property), faced a serious lack of interest / hype, and made a game that is at once both an homage to the series before and a new take on a stale genre.

As somebody who has really cashed out of the shooter scene in the last few years, DOOM and Overwatch have been really refreshing to play.

Doom vs Overwatch would be the argument right now. Maybe Stardew Valley if people want to back that horse (Dan loved the game if I remember).

@nightriff: I think Stardew has top 3 potential IF, and this is a heavy IF since people tend to not have time at the end of the year, more people play it. But right now with just Dan championing it, I'd be shocked if it got as high as 5th on the list.

It's going to be DOOM. As far as I know the only person that continued to play Overwatch after release is Alex.

It think it will most likely be doom and it looks like the poll agrees.

I'd like to see Dark Souls 3 get some love. But based on bombcast discussion, I'd say Doom is a strong contender.

DOOM is the top contender, no question. That game is fantastic and both Brad and Jeff are super hot on it.

I think Dan will argue against that - he seems to be dragging his feet when it comes to DOOM but he really loved Stardew Valley and Overwatch. A lot of other staff members liked Overwatch as well.

...but DOOM will still win.

As of right now, Doom/Overwatch/Hitman is my guess for 1, 2, 3.

@justin258: I disagree. He was going through it slowly but the very next Bombcast after he beat it he was glowing like crazy about the game. I don't think Dan would try to argue against it much.

I think it's safe to bet that DOOM will win. With Overwatch and The Witness following close behind. For once in a long time, I have no qualms with this likely outcome.

Overwatch will likely be my GOTY.

In all likelihood, it'll be DOOM unless a late-year release is unworldly good. I mean, I thought it was a great time and I don't generally like FPSs and was never into the original DOOM. Although I could also see Dan giving brief plugs for Overwatch and Stardew Valley (SDV was about all he talked about for like three weeks on the Bombcast and I remember him saying somewhere he thought Overwatch was better).

Let's put it this way, I don't think this will be a year where a single cast-member filibusters the podcast over a particular game's place on the list.

Jeff has a lot of pull, and I can't see him going for anything but Doom at this point, unless something in the next few months just really blows up. But let's be honest, which game is that gonna be? 2016 has been a pretty weak year.

Dark Souls 3 could still win something. You know, like most disappointing game?

@meptron: DS3 would probably get more love if the staff does in fact allow Austin to have his "first half of 2016" input, since he was one of the main champions of that.

I really enjoyed DS3 and hope it makes top 10. I don't think it's top 5 material but easily a 6-10 shoe in.

I feel like overwatch is universally loved by the staff and doom isn't because not everyone has played it yet.

My pick is still the Witness. Doom is great, but the Witness is close to perfect.

It will be DOOM, and I will be SAD.

If I know anything about Jeff Gerstmann, GOTY will definitely be Dead or Alive Xtreme 3.
