Which game has the worst hardcore fans ?
Call of Duty fans are pretty bad, but the worst I've ever experienced is hardcore Gears of War fans. They are the biggest dicks ever.
My mind is still reeling from earlier in this thread where someone called The Great Gatsby trash after writing an entire paragraph with multiple, incorrect uses of the word "good" rather than well.
" How are COD and Halo not in this poll? "This.
But I was still going to vote FFVII.
None of those options are that bad, people who are still hardcore sonic fans maybe a little dumb but thats all.
Ico and Shadow of the Colossus fans are the worst. The second one was pretty decent, but Ico is definitely not worth the worship it gets from the gaming community. The game isn't art, it's just a f'n escort mission spread out over 8 hours.
FF VII haters are pretty hardcore. Yea the ones that havent played it but say it sucks. Also i didnt know kingdom hearts had a hardcore following.
To answer the question though the ABSOLUTE WORST piece of motherfucking shit, is the DOTA community. AKA worst gaming community ever.
I know people that played WC3 DOTA but have no clue about the actual game. They just go for it cause they are too stupid to actually build a base, units, upgrades, etc etc.
Especially those that play watered down versions of it. No single player, no multiplayer just DOTA.
Clueless about building units, bases, heroes just running around farming kills. Basically turning a great game to Call of Arthas: Kill them all (my shit is fucked up so i build nothing ) However this is wrong aswell cause i really doubt these players even know who Arthas is.
Good Pokemon is the lowest, I love Pocket Monsters, I wish I had a breadmaker to play some none handheld pokemon games on.
I must say Zelda, the crowd practically died at the Twilight Princess reveal, I still watch that video from time to time just for the comments.
Altho I must say FF7 is attracting a lot of people, still not sure how all those "I wanna be Cloud/Seph in every game I play" kiddies actually finished such a rpg front to back, they probably didn't. :P
Can I ask your age?
I was referring to people in Warcraft/Monster Hunter/Any other MMO making their chars looked like Seph/Cloud and using the same weapons.
I can't quite fathom how such kiddies (they mostly turn out to be) can actually finish an rpg like FF7.
Now I have to admit, I never played it too, somebody get me a playstation!
" Now I have to admit, I never played it too, somebody get me a playstation! "You don't want to at this point. It's incredibly dated.
I do agree that the art style is far too overused. I for one am happy that there hasn't been a remake. Just leave it as it is.
If you have a PO box or a business address then I will post you a PC copy to play. I have a sealed one but I have my play copy too and I would be more than happy for you to give it a go. It's showing its age a bit though!
Not to try and turn this into a ff 7 message board, but I liked 7 the best of the series. Then again, I am not bothered by things like a melodramatic story, random battles, and being required to level up my team. As for @TaliciaDragonsong: I am certainly not a kiddie, and I have finished FF7 on multiple occasions. Not just finish either. Twice now I have done everything including getting a black chocobo (easily the biggest pain in the ass in that game).

" @TaliciaDragonsong: You may, I'm 27 so I played it through when I was 14. It just sucked me in and I'm not sure why. It's certainly not the greatest game ever but its up there for me just for the memories it brings about from my childhood and the sense of achievement of beating Ruby Weapon! I'm kinda in Europe, so not sure if that's a plan!
But it's for PC? I never knew that, I'm sure I can get it then somewhere
!@MonetaryDread:
Ok! Thanks for sharing! I didn't mean to imply you were a kiddie (even tho, you were back then :P).
@JJWeatherman:
Meh, I play a lot of old school games which are pretty dated to the point where it's more of a chore to get through then to actually have fun.
Sorry for the big comment to others, I didn't mean to derail the thread!
Yes sir, no sir!
I'll check the gamestore today, we have a lot of old pc games (like, with the giant boxes and stuff!) from way back, maybe they have it!
If not, we'll be in touch!
Appreciate it either way!
Sorry if I came across as an ass there. Till u mentioned it I forgot that it has been about fourteen years since FF7 was released and that would put me at fifteen when I first tried the game.
As for playing ff7 on the PC, buy the PS1 version and use an emulator. I have the PC version and it doesn't work on XP or newer operating systems for some reason. I have tried the fan patches and they work to an extent, but overall it is a less frustrating experience to go with the the emulator.
@MonetaryDread: No worries, the internet can very quickly make any comment seem like an attack! Been there, done that!
I'll keep your advice in mind, but I bet I can get a ps1 and pc copy for under 10 bucks probably, so I'll just get both just in case!
Thanks, all of ya, once again!

After an emotional battle, Snake overcomes his feelings and defeats her. He and EVA escape to Alaska, and spend the night together. During the night EVA disappears, and leaves behind a tape revealing herself to be a Chinese spy sent to steal the Philosopher's Legacy for China. The tape continues, and EVA reveals that The Boss did not defect to the Soviet Union; rather, she was under orders to pretend to defect so she could infiltrate Volgin's ranks and find the location of the Legacy, which could be brought back to America. The final part of her mission was to sacrifice her honor and die at the hands of Snake, under the guise of a traitor, to prove the U.S.'s innocence in Volgin's nuclear attack from the beginning of the game.
I see no problem with this.
The whole game could have been avoided if the Boss had said just one thing to Snake: "I didn't defect. I've been sent here to die."
No because she was to die at the hands of snake, telling him would have ruined everything. I don't see these plot holes you speak of, rather I think it is covered quite nicely.
@neozeke:
To be fair, I never said that. If it sounded like that then I apologize. What I said was these games are better than most books, but since it is a book, the game will never have a chance. I said I prefered Final Fantasy to LOTR, because I feel LOTR is overrated, it's the hobbit, stretched over 3 books and the thrill gets pretty slim as it goes. It is incredably imaginitive, but so is Final Fantasy, saying it isn't would be foolish. The Hobbit on the other hand, is a 300(ish) pages of pure brilliance that everyone should read.
And you say I'm too close to them, which could be entirely true, but I ask, how did I get there in the first place? I'm obviously holding onto something, and believe me, there is somethign there to hold onto. They're classic games in their own right, don't write them off because film and text as had such longer head starts to become the masterpieces they're today. Video Games have only been around as a medium for art for a little over 20 years. You know what books were the first 20 years of their life? Cave drawings, scribbled onto a wall with a rock. Movies were silent, and overaly stupid. Video games have had only a fraction of this life, and yet as managed to stand it's ground, and in turn stand tall beside them. As much as I hate to say this... Modern Warfare 2 made more money than Avatar and Lady Gaga combined last year. And if Avatar can be called "The Greatest Movie Ever", and Lady Gaga music, and Goosebumps works of art, than video games are not just better in general, but imo much more engaging and more fun to experience. They still have a long way to go, but when they do we'll look back at works like FFVII and MGS3 and say, hey, you know these hold games were pretty amazing for their time.
Sonic was the reason I got a Genesis instead of a Super Nintendo
Final Fantasy 7 was my first JRPG and will always hold a special place in my heart.
Super Smash Bros. is the best 4 Player game ever.
Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is the greatest Game Boy game ever.
I am old enough to drink and I still play Pokemon.
Kingdom Hearts is a crazy blend of Japanese and Disney that is so insane that it must be played to believe it is also a great action rpg.
So how dare you good sir ! I say good day.
I'm kind of surprised by the write-in response focus on Modern Warfare and Halo. It's not that I don't think those die hard fans are scarily obsessive with their competitive multiplayer games or that they aren't occasionally obnoxious tools towards less experienced players, it's just that when it comes to impassioned hardcore game fanatics, nothing tops in my mind the World of Warcraft addict.
- A hardcore WOW player will spend more time in Azeroth than they will functioning in the real world.
- They'll sleep less than they play everyday so they could spend more than a third of their lives in game.
- They know the maps of each dungeon better than they know their own hometowns and make references to boss encounters in everyday speech.
- They have stronger views on the latest patch than they do on the latest national issues and will complain about their disapproval at great length.
- They have their own convention (well it's mostly for them these days) with a dance contest where they dress up in costume and dance the dances their video game identities dance.
- The game is more than a game for them, more than work, it is life and any disruption to the illusion of control they have over that virtual life is angrily rebuked.
Crysis
Those people are so hung up on graphics and PC snobism, it's downright hilarious ("Oh god, that texture looks slightly blurry! The consoles are ruining Crysis 2!")
Sonic has to take it really since most of them are disgusting furries who do the most obnoxious shit like "marrying" characters etc. NMA Fallout people, people who treat Smash Bros. as a fighting game and not funtime Nintendo fight, Halo and CoD MLG people and dogged JRPG "glorious Nippon" types all deserve a special place in gaming hell too.
Also lol at the dude comparing FF and MGS games as being on the same level as some the greatest things ever written, they aren't even on par with fucking Goosebumps. There's a reason every argument about story in games includes the phrase "well written, for a game" in it.
Zelda fans do much complaining, little shutting the fuck up these days. :P joke!! Kinda...it's been a common theme for Zelda fans over the last several years to be difficult in the same way Final Fantasy fans are. Many of them dislike the trend towards wanting change, put up a fight everytime something changes even stylistically (Windwaker, Skyword Sword), become belligerent when they don't agree with a review (Twilight Princess heyo!), and become so outspoken that even the game makers are influenced by their crap (Twilight Princess once again). There is a large (or very loud) section of Zelda fans that seem to be trying to suffocate the franchise, and it's a little depressing.
Street Fighter, closely followed by those God awful Sonic kids.

If I could vote for this guy, I would." Any xbot 3shitty exclusive game! "
I enjoyed the MGS series, would that make me a "fan"? I just played the games and liked them, I'm not some creep who screams at people about how "Kojima is God" and constantly declares that MGS is the best series of all time or anything.
I thought MGS3 had a nice story, and the MGS games all have great graphics and sound design.
I have to say, when I think of worst hardcore fans in gaming Pikachu doesn't spring to mind. The correct answer is Modern Warfare 2 by the way.
" @dulmonkey: See, that's untrue. Cloud was never full of angst, as he didn't know he was a "clone" which he wasn't that was Sephiroth trying to break him down. And cloud's "emo" nature is justified imo, he watch his best and only friend die, and his hero burn down his hometown and almost kill his childhood crush. Also cloud isn't a clone, he is just infused with Jenova cells when he was almost killed in Niebilhiem. (Sorry about spelling laying down 3am...) "I wish this had Spoiler tags.
Jerk. I've not played FFVII and now I don't need to, but just reading this I can tell the storyline is a gigantic rotting turd.
Also, I'm saying Persona fans. They kinda seem elitist
