I am not offended or anything, but it's amusing seeing stuff like this.
I dont know what else to say, this thread may be locked because I cant think of enough stuff to write to warrant a discussion, but just though I'll share this.

The Editorial staff don't have complete control over what ads show up on the site.
Jesus! White background! Ew
The grossest.

"ad", isn't short for "addvert"
But "add" is?
On topic, I don't understand what the advertiser is getting from running that ad, who the fuck would ever click that? You are paying for impressions here, and that ad conveys nothing.
@alternate: It is. Unless you meant that "add" isn't the abbreviated form of advertisement.

Yeah, Patrick's such a hypocrite. Designing that ad himself and selling it to CBSi just so it could show up on his own website. The Nerve!

I'm sure there are quite a lot of people who would instinctively click that ad.
Obviously her name is Minerva.
Are you saying that her anus is a spacious recreation room?

I studied marketing in university for a couple years and they really encourage stereotyping, racism, sexism and ageism. It's their bread and butter. It's not surprising for these types of ads to be targeted towards the Giant Bomb demographic.

That's the best part, man. The irony is so delicious.
II think there is a more direct link to what Alex said during an Bombin the A.M which was basically don't use on Ad-block on sites you want to support E.G Giant Bomb.
Hey we want to support....we just hate stupid adverts...E.G this one.
Doesn't matter to me in this case as I am a premium, how ever outside of GB I am not and so many stupid adverts....I am just tired of it thats why I block them.
At the same time a webcomic said much the same and I went "ok Ill do it." what I saw was 6 ad's of stupid and one was a badly animated British Commando popping his head up from water to tell me only 99.9% of applicants don't become Commandos...join today at Army recruitment. I went nope and switched ADblock back on.
I wonder if that add might be related to your cookies? If so somebody's been going down to the red light district of the net.
Google AdSense at work. Ads tailored to you based on your browsing history. Use incognito mode in the future broski.
@subjugation: exactly.

Yep, pretty much these can affect what ads you see. Like for me, I logged out and then went to a page with ads, refreshed about 15-20 times or so and mostly got the following: T-mobile, insurance/medical related ads, EVE Online expansion, and car ads. None of them had anything resembling/similar to what you screen capped.

And this is why I use adblock, so I don't have to deal with this garbage.
And that's why I subscribe, so I don't have to deal with this garbage.

You should come over to Premium Land, it's awesome over here..

Anyone who has worked in the media knows that advertising never has the last say of what goes on editorial pages. I'm not saying this was approved by them, but fuck they own the site, they should controlthis shit.
@gkhan: @newmarcom: These cats know what's what. :3
Also not living in the U.S. helped immeasurably with not seeing a majority of ads, back in the Whiskey Media days. I think the only thing I'd see when not logged in was the occasional site re-skin.
O the promises they once made that it would never become this...
Yeah, and look how that turned out. The site got sold. Them bones ain't going to make themselves, holmes!
Anyway, there have always been ads on the site. At one point we even had sponsored quests. All that's changed is that the ads are now more consistent and there is less control over what they are. However, if they are reported as inappropriate, the staff can have them removed.
For a site to have complete control over the ads they show is both a rare and privileged position. The content on Giant Bomb isn't the bullshit sensationalist nonsense or click-traps that dictate the ridiculous traffic of IGN and Kotaku, so they don't have that luxury of being able to pick and choose. That's the price. All things considered, it could be a hell of a lot worse.
On topic, I don't understand what the advertiser is getting from running that ad, who the fuck would ever click that? You are paying for impressions here, and that ad conveys nothing.
Enough people.
@akyho: I know what you mean, I tried it on Twitch but it would show an ad every 2 minutes, so back to AdBlock on. Advertisers really should learn to make simple classy ads.
well a simple classy ad wont stick in your mind and be assigned to a specific emotion. These ads that anger you stick in your mind better then some classy ad you will most likely forget in a few secs. The problem for ad developers is that we learned to fight back.
Back in the days before Dvr, there was no choice but to wait. And on the occasions where I had recorded the show I wanted to see, I took SOOOO much pleasure in fast forwarding the ads. As soon as I could I opted out, and I was not aware of how angry I was at ads either until the opportunity presented itself.
I wish I got ads like that, not because I'm into that.. Giantbomb ads just seems to be cool.
I don't get ads at all, even when I turn off adblock or use chrome.. not a single ad on giantbomb for some reason.
Lots of these ads are based on what you look at, the tabs don't have to be open for that. I was shopping around looking at whats on sale at the supermarket and I get ads for cheerios and gasoline right now. This guy, obviously looking at something raunchy. Want ads like that to go away, stop looking at porn before you look at Giant Bomb.
@gkhan: @newmarcom: I don't earn enough money to waste it on a subscription that's only use is to codify my community superiority and erect an illusory pedestal to condescend from.
