See you later, duder. You'll always be welcome back. :)
Goodbye, Duders
@wrighteous86: Yeah, but these are two things the GB boards could do with a lot less of: attention-seeking hissyfit topics and snarky, reductive replies.
I still lurk, but I'm not involved as much as I used to be and actually deleted a lot of what I contributed since. Vinny isn't "gone", we just won't see him with the SF crew anymore. Yeah it's not the same thing, but it's not like he is leaving the company for something else like Dave Snider did. For me the height of Giant Bomb was just prior to the CBS acquisition, and before the office move and site redesign. When they would do videos and stuff, the office felt alive. When I see the odd mailbag since the move, the office feels cold and empty. Even before Patrick left for Chicago and Ryan passed. The site redesign was cool, but we lost a very cool feature in the quests and achievements. Most of the content I feel is produced now is Twitch-like, a bunch of people sitting around playing games. The GDC interviews were great, more of that would be very appreciated. And of course the Giant Bombcast rocks. It's not the same without Ryan, but it's still great. Speaking of, what's going to happen? It went from 5 participants about a year ago to 3 at present?
Then again I'm around the same age as most of the GB crew and I can hear the lethargy in Jeff's voice regarding games. There is one Bombcast I keep on my phone all the time, the 2011 Thanksgiving episode. You could choose pretty much any episode from that year and before, I like that one, but the excitement for the industry isn't there like it used to be. I cannot blame him, in many ways I feel exactly the same. I just keep clinging-to because games have been such a huge part of my life for so long that it feels wrong without them there on a regular basis. However I keep sitting down to play stuff and not really caring about anything available.
Phew
Anyone else saw the title and thought it was another suicide?
wait... ANOTHER suicide? What?
A while ago some duder wrote basically a suicide letter and a few mods contacted the police. I don't know what happened after that, but when I see these titles my heart sinks.

We've had a small handful of people use a forum thread as a suicide note over the past year or so. At least one person is still an active poster.

Don't tell me that's what happened to that guy who would always come up with the most random topics and polls? I feel really bad for not remembering his name.

Hizang? No, he got banned for linking to porn in the last day or two of the old site, when posts weren't going to be carried over.

Well, if it helps, if I was wrong, he'll never see it anyway.
Vinny is just moving to NY to be closer to his family and shit. He's opening a second office with Alex and they're supposed to be posting tons of dumb content. If anything we're gonna be seeing MORE vinny, not less.
@marokai: I still feel like not enough people appreciate how much of a blow to the site it was when Dave left. He brought an interesting PC gaming perspective, plus I think he was always really good at interacting with the community, especially in setting up the Whiskey Media Radio Show thing. That feature was a good way to give updates on where the site was headed and what premium users should expect and all that. While I give huge props to @rorie for his continued presence on the forums, I do really miss those call-in shows with Dave and Jeff that were just about the site in general, and the only thing we've really had like that was the Puppy Chat with Rorie (which was pretty good!).
Dave/Vinny was the secret best combo. Jeff/Vinny is so mainstream.
Come on guys. I'm sick of seeing these posts. :-( It honestly just makes me really sad. Let's just move on and move forward. I'm sure there will be plenty of great stupid content from GB in the future. :-D
A lot of people can't deal with change. Simple as that. It gets quite annoying.
@believer258: you didn't, ahhh, by chance save those links did you?....
I feel you with games interest and how the entire "hobby" has changed and how studios are ending (goddamnit, Mythic) but Vinny is simply moving, things are changing, shit's gonna be fine and new original ideas will appear, if the people acting like you about Vinny's move still have grandparents or even great grandparents still alive then buckle the motherfuck up for when they start dying, god forbid you have a pet that's not a parrot or a turtle, and if this is simply a case of being super uncomfortable with that little change of him moving, see a psychiatrist and get some tests run.
(I am never fakeposting or irony-posting, I just have an often rough way with words.)
What are you babbling on about, what does Vinny leaving have to do with family members dying. It has nothing to do with change end everything to do with the kind of content you enjoy on the site.
With Ryans passing and Vinny leaving to do videos with Alex the only content I can see is Jeff being super jaded and hating all games, Brad inbetween his bouts of sleepiness and playing on his phone only caring about Dota and Drew not really playing any games I can't see a version of the future that will ever come close to what they had with Ryan and Vinny.
I don't watch or consume any content by Patrick or Alex and I get super frustrated at Quicklooks driven by Brad who blames games and makes excuses for things that are glaringly obvious.
I've got 9 months left on my sub now which is going to be useless to me, the only premium content that interested me was Unpro Fridays and now Vinnys gone who is going to be spontaneous and play FMV games or games like Firefighter Simulator because Jeff and Brad aren't interested in those kind of things and have never brought wacky games to the table.
Those are legitimate reasons for leaving. Godspeed duder! We'll be here if you ever decide to come back!
Good luck Duder, I can understand your reasons.
That said, I'm pretty damn excited for the changes to GB.
This is a weird sentiment. It's a website. It's not like you're moving away and can't come back. Is this your way of saying you're deleting Giant Bomb from your bookmarks or something?
I was thinking the same thing. I'm not sure on how people perceive their relationship with their websites, this isn't the first thread I've seen like this. It is the internet, you can view content on this website while viewing content on another website or stop using the internet, then come back to everything, it's your life.
Yeah, the site hasn't been the same ever since Ryan left us, but this is still easily my favourite place on the net to come and hang out. I'm really looking forward to the new blood coming in and hope that it gives the site a real shot in the arm.
@monkeyman04 I have to admit I'm one of those guys who stopped visiting Tested after the split, but it's mainly because there's no longer a big old Tested icon hanging around in my line of sight. Glad to hear that those guys are doing well though.

You know, it's fine if you've no interest in content with Patrick or Alex, I don't get it myself but whatever. But rather than bleeting like a child about 9 months of a useless subscription why don't you just wait & see? Maybe the new hires will be someone you enjoy? Maybe Alex & Vinny gel really well together and end up producing fun content like Random PC Game. WHO KNOWS? Give it time. If your sub ended tomorrow I get it, but as it doesn't, as you've already spent your money, you may as well just wait & see.
I dunno, people whining because a website changes staff is really odd to me. It was odd when everyone was shitting on Patrick and it's odd now that Vinny is moving cross country & but still staying on-board. But whatever, spend your time how you want. Just know that seeing these threads once a fortnight is really boring and people will get snarky about them.
I've never truly understood the reasoning behind these kinds of posts. All the power to you, man, but it seems silly to announce your departure from what is no more than a tourist attraction on the web. I'm not going to say that the site hasn't had the same glow, but I feel like that is just okay. When Ryan died, the site lost a personality, not it's personality. Vinny is off on his own adventure to expand Giantbomb, and I think its wonderful to see Alex get someone out here and form a legitimate operation. I hope to see more Bombastica's, east-coast UP's, and more.
Oh well, either I'll see you soon, or NEVER. Remember, after you made this post, you're never allowed to type giantbomb.com into the browser again. Just saying.
PS: Know this. If I ever see you around here again, I'll hunt you down and call you a hypocrite! (Just kidding, of course)
The crew has seemed pretty bummed out as of late, almost forcing to do things such as unprofessional fridays. I think new people will give them new fire.
Phew

It's happened a couple times. I always get stressed when I see titles like this.
Translation: I want attention.
We know what your post is about, but what has this to do with this thread? See? I can be snarky too. ;)
3/5 Stars
Fans of the genre will like it; for everyone else it's a mixed bag.
(Point taken, though.)
Instead of good bye, lets call it a smell you later... I believe these guys are really going to kick some ass in the future. We all have to remember that shit really just went down and it is not easy to rebuild after that. But with Vinnie going out to NY and the awesome work Patrick is doing, this site is really going to lay down them pipes, son.
You'll be back *squints eyes*
I'm close to your situation, just willing to ride it out until we see what the new hired people are like in action.
@alwaysbebombing: That's sad but now that I think about it not too surprising given the size of this community and the age group (which statistically is more likely to contemplate suicide).
It's a shame you feel that way OP.
I have seen a bunch of "I quit" posts in the MMO I play every time there is a major update. Some people dislike change. I was, frankly, pissed at the start of Tested's departure from the old Whiskey Media group, but they are going better than ever now.
Giant Bomb has been through some significant changes in the site's time. I would be curious to know how many threads there were on Jeff and co's departure from GameSpot, we all know what that lead to.
I am afraid I have another announcement to make.
As a result of bad laundry management, I have washed my white socks with my black socks. I have now been left with an array of terrible, depressing, and ultimately not sexy grey socks.
This change is too much for me and my delicate, yet supple feet and while I have enjoyed my time here with you all I must venture forth in search of something new. I simply do not have the time anymore to sieve grey from black and spend endless hours crying into my soup. Life is naught but a twist and a turn, and if I waste this opportunity I fear precious moments will be lost in the ditch, much like my billions of brothers and sisters that were never to be, splattered across an old shopping trolley and bits of sheet metal, a sticky reminder of the fickleness of life and of my Father's poor sexual performance.
Away with me, unto the deep. I join Vinny in the vast unknown, the endless terror of a world and its expanse. They will say someday of this bare-footed hero : "My god did he talk an awful lot of bullocks, but he sure knew how to quit a website".
I'm not leaving by the way. I have not slept in quite a while and socks are important.

Hopefully you're not referring to me (random topics and polls)... I'm still alive anyway and never wrote a suicide note.
