God of War 2 is the Best Game on the PS2
God of war 2 is a very good game, being 7 years after it's console launch its as good as PS2 games get. This is a third person action adventure game set in ancient Greece. There is a lot of combat involved while throwing in some puzzles that never seem like they're in your way. Being the sequel to God of War it keeps a lot of the cool things about the original and throws in some improvements that need you to go back to the original to fully appreciate. Now you get 2 secondary weapons instead of 1 (even though a smart player will focus on the Blades of Athena, the main weapons) and more importantly Kratos can move around while using magic. In the first game using the Medusa head was risky, because an enemy could get you while you were stoning some guy. Now you can move around which is a blessing. The game is about the same length as God of War 1, which is about 10 hours for newcomers. Multiple difficulties allow gamers to find their sweet spot, and the foolish that go on Titan mode have an option of going back to easy after dying a few times, without losing any progress.
The visuals excel everywhere. Using tons of polygons and textures, you could mistake this game for something on the Xbox 360. Up close Kratos looks very detailed, and you can tell the programmers worked their asses of coding this game. The audio is as breathtaking as before, and the gameplay is much better. Basically you have your light and heavy attacks, you can jump, grab enemies, block, use magic, and dodge using the right analog stick. Some moves were altered from the original, while others were scrapped altogether. In the end every move has its uses and trying out every combo is a good idea cause some work better than others even though they're not as flashy. The player can upgrade weapons by collecting red orbs found everywhere in the game. Upgrades increase attack power and add new combos. Often throughout the game the player will be faced with PWOS (press whats on screen) gameplay. A button will pop up and you have to press that button as fast as you can. Sometimes you have to rotate the analog stick, other time you have to mash a button. This is thrown at the player in careful amounts, not to make it repetitive.
The game has a lot of platforming involves such as climbing walls and navigating through deadly terrain. This is evenly spaced out through the game and Kratos (the guy who you play as) performs everything with godly strength. Speaking of Kratos, he is the God of War. In the first level in the game you lose your powers, and are forced to start from scratch. This isn't a problem since most of the time your gonna be using basic attacks you learn in the first half of the game. There are 7 bosses throughout the game, ranging in size from giant skyscrapers who have a lot of PWOS involves to human sized foes that you use more of your combat moves on. The 4 magics you get are all useful and are necessary in some parts of the game. Using them drains your magic bar, which you can replenish by collecting blue orbs. Health comes back over time, but collecting green orbs is much faster.
The story is epic. I'm dead serious. I don't wanna ruin anything as it should be experienced first hand. Trust me.
This game is worth the twenty bucks you spend. There are plenty of secrets and bonus modes to draw you back after you beat the game. God of War 2 also comes with a bonus disk with extra content. This is the GREATEST PS2 GAME EVER MADE. I strongly recommend anyone with a PS2 to play this game. Fans of the original game and other action adventure games will feel right at home.
