like absolute garbage?
I've watched all of the trailers and the Quick Look and I can't see much of an improvement over the remastered editions of GoW I and II.
When you compare it to games released months ago (like Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank) or even similar games like Dante's Inferno, the graphics really seem to look dated.
What does everyone else think?
EDIT
OK so it takes a big man to admit when they're wrong, the screens from the TGS trailer look gorgeous, I just hope that the rest of the game is up to the same standard.
God of War III
Game » consists of 14 releases. Released Mar 16, 2010
God of War III puts players back in the role of Kratos to continue his brutal and bloody war against Olympus as he sets his sights on Zeus himself.
Does anyone else think the graphics look...
No. BTW, I wouldn't include MW2 when comparing graphics unless we are talking about average looking games.
" Dante's Inferno is clearly superior. The out God-of-War-ed God of War. "lets never hang out
" Dante's Inferno is clearly superior. The out God-of-War-ed God of War. "your joking right, i played both demos, and Dante's look like garbage.
Ok that Quick Look was the demo, and call me crazy but that late in the development cycle would they still be improving the graphics? I ask that as a serious question." So you're basing you opinion after watching all the trailers and the QL?! How very professional of you. If you think it doesn't show any difference then I think you need to schedule an appointment with an eye doctor because clearly your eye sight is giving up on you. The graphics of GoW 3 are simply beautiful to look at even for a 7 month old demo but everyones entitled to their opinion. Now in the spirit of opinions I think your thread is absolute garbage. "
It's all good to say you think the thread is garbage, I'm just trying to get a sense of whether people also thought the graphics were bad, and from the looks of things it seems split down the middle. The demo that the GB staff played was released in November 2009, so it's barely 2 months old (it's not the demo from E3).
Also, I never said that GoW 3 doesn't show any difference over the first two, read my post properly before attacking me.
The demo that people have played, including the quick look, was from E3 (around June/July or something?) or 09, so hopefully the visuals get more polished since then. I don't think it looks bad...but after hearing people saying the visuals are supposed to be amazing for GoW3, they really are nothing special. Especially next to another PS3 exclusive, like Uncharted 2.
Could be better I suppose, it really looks alot like the old games with more contrast and slightly higher resolution and the same camera angles. I don't care either way, i'll probally buy it regardless of the graphics because it's probally going to get good reviews.
Seems to be fine to me. God of War games have always done scale well, and this one is no different. Besides that, I don't know if either of the old ones were all that breakthrough with their graphics in the first place. Only one I'd say was really technically impressive was the PSP one, Chains of Olympus, because of the system it was made for.
I played the demo, and it looks absolutely gorgeous... what the hell are you people talking about? Are you basing your statements on blurry Youtube videos or something?

"or even similar games like Dante's Inferno, the graphics really seem to look dated."Are you kidding me? God of War III's graphics are closer to Dante's Inferno's pre-rendered cutscenes than they are to its in-game graphics.
- You can see reflections in the armor piece that Kratos wears.
- You can see muscles and tendons being animated on Kratos when he moves
- Every enemy looks different because the team employs a random look generator.
- You have dudes the size of mountains being animated on screen.
- The blades leaves permeant scarring on enemies when a QTE is triggered.
- They are animating guts being spilled.
- Kratos' has blood residue on him after battles.
- When you pull the Cyclopes' eye out you can the connective nerves being pulled with it along with a nice gush of blood.
- You can see the skin from Helios' neck being stretched and ripped when kratos removes it.
That is only from a demo that they had for E3 way back in june and I am sure the build of that demo even goes further then that. Why don't you just wait until the full game cmoes out in March until you decide that the graphics look like garbage.
EDIT: I noticed that I used words that were not meant to be used. Fixed, now it actually make sense.

I played the demo and there was some really impressive things shown in it. Kratos character model shows off some really good detail with high resolution textures, muscle deformation, and extremely impressive facial animation. His character model is easily comparable to the CGI one they use for the cinemas. (Not better then it but definitely comparable.) But the one thing that is really urking me at this point in regards to the visuals is the character animation itself. It is all still very... stiff. It looks like everything in the game got a bump in quality but the animations when they moved to PS3.
The epic scale and great art style are still intact. But honestly when people are going around saying things like "It looks like a moving painting" and "This already looks better then Uncharted 2" how in the name of FUCK are Sony Santa Monica suppose to meet that kind of hype. The people I'm talking about need to just shut the fuck up about this game because I honestly think their bullshit is the reason people come away seeing God Of War 3 as a kinda not impressive looking game. (I'll give you a hint as to who I'm talking about: the first ones name is Dave and the second ones name is Gai :P) Hype is a natural thing but sometimes you need to know when to just be quiet. I like God of War I really do. But that kind of bullshit hype needs to go away because it quite obviously has an effect on how people end up viewing the product as noted by the existence of this thread.
So the long and the short of it is this: Do I think it looks like garbage? No. Do I think it looks as good as it can be as of right now? Deffinitely not. Will it meet those hyped up expectations? No, no it will not. But it will be a damn fine game and I can't wait to play it.
I played the demo. I agree. The graphics are underwhelming. Demo runs at 720p. Forcing a 1080p upscale only makes it blurry. I saw some aliasing (jaggies/jagged polygonal edges) and a few unfiltered textures here and there. It looks good for a PS3 game, but Uncharted 2 still wins for me. I'm not going to judge it just yet though. The demo is old code. Hopefully the full release will show its polish in the graphics department. As for gameplay, for me, god of war will always be fun and satisfying. Graphically, Dante's Inferno isn't that much different.
Well it was just a demo. After seeing some screenshots of later builds it looks like it will have more "pizazz".
That demo is almost a year old and still looks better than most retail releases.
Let's wait for next weeks reveal shall we?
Worst graphics this gen. ^
All this stuff is true, it's doing some big stuff and the epic backdrops, unlike the old God of War games, appear like they will be an actual factor in the game with how the Titans seem to work. Those are being changed all the time, and are like characters of their own. It seems like the game is tackling a lot of detail. The dismemberment has a crazy amount of detail visually, to the point that some people have objected just from the demo. It's pretty nuts." @User_Hostile: something about your user name that just makes me go hostile...You might not specifically said there no difference but you just worded it differently. How can you not see the improvements from previous games is really beyond me. Have you played the demo yourself?

The biggest thing though - the demo has been out for a while. I'm sure it's missing a lot of the final polish on the visuals. I be it has all that detail and is a lot better looking when released.
Isn't the demo from E3? That makes it over 6 months old. They can improve on that stuff a lot within those 6 months and it still has another 3 months left for some final polishing.
I just think its to soon to tell. Why not wait till when the games is actually out before you start bashing it?
I thought the same thing when I played the Uncharted 2 beta. I thought the game looked terrible. Come release of the game, look how wrong I was. I say judge the game when the full game is out.

O.o...you serious??? Even U2's beta looked fantastic. Infact I hardly remember much difference between the beta and the full multiplayer component.
It's also worth noting Santa Monica develop games in sync. What I mean is, they develop the whole game simultaneously, rather than making a demo, polishing it to hell and then working on all the other levels.
Which means, they've had eight or so months to polish it alongside the whole game. Not that it looks bad anyway.
Can't wait for new footage to shut everyone up personally.
OK so clearly trying to have an informed discussion with you just seems to be pointless. That is only from a demo that they had for E3 way back in june and I am sure the build of that demo even goes further then that. Compared to games that have already been released in the current generation, it is my OPINION that the graphics are sub-par. I'm not hating on the game, I've already said I'll be buying it because I'm a huge fan of the series. Please read the other posts on the thread, I'm not the only one who feels this way.

" @User_Hostile: yep cause the compressed vidoes from the quicklook and trailers are indicative of what you will see on the screen. "A valid point, but I've also watched the trailers in HD on GameTrailers.
I'm confident that the release will have better graphics (at least I hope so), what I'm trying to suggest is that other, older games look WAY better.
I could not agree more.

Is that an in-game screenshot or from a cutscene? If it's in-game I'm totally prepared to eat my words because that looks gorgeous
