    God of War III

Game » consists of 14 releases. Released Mar 16, 2010

God of War III puts players back in the role of Kratos to continue his brutal and bloody war against Olympus as he sets his sights on Zeus himself.

My thoughts on possible future God of War games (Major Spoilers!)

So with the rumors of Epilogue DLC a possibility, the slight reference from Zeus about Kratos' brother, and just sheer excitement from how epic this game was, I have come up with a way to transition into a new trilogy.

After beating the game and watching the credits, you return to Olympus and see that Kratos' body has disappeared and there is a streak of blood leading off the cliff. So my theory was that Kratos' brothers soul is finally released after the death of Hades, and he brings back Kratos because he believes it is his right to kill him and not the gods. So he tortures Kratos until he is about to break, and Kratos sets off to kill him, despite being heavily broken. The brother can bring the Gods and Titans back and use them like puppets to fight Kratos.

Imagine this, fighting all the Gods at once, while leaping from Titan to Titan. How epic would it be to be fighting Hermes on Puppet Cronos, and then leaping off of Cronos onto Puppet Gaia and using a huge tree to impale Puppet Hermes. Then Poseidon shows up and you leap off of him onto Atlus while Gaia is trying to stop you.  Fighting all the Gods at once, while leaping from Titan to Titan... Epic.

I'd like to point out that the title "New God of War Trilogy" implies a spoiler.

EDIT: Maybe it doesn't. I don't know. I feel like you can't have a God of War game without Kratos, and if you posit there'll be a new trilogy, it'll have to have Kratos in it, which entails his survival in the third game.

Well my whole theory involved Kratos so that isn't a problem. And they left the door pretty open for Kratos to return.

One could posit that the devs already established a lack of finality in the universe by "killing" Kratos in the first 2 games. Obviously if the hero can die and return, you have an IP that never really has to end if the money's there so I don't see how it gives anything away to propose another sequel. That was DBZ's deal.

It's still a spoiler. Even if it's an eventuality, it's still a spoiler.

This kind of sounds like an awful idea.  We've already fought all of those gods and titans.  What would be more interesting about it the second time?  I mean, sure, they could change the fights up, but it would feel so forced.  And Kratos embarks on his quest for revenge again...really?  Kratos is already kind of a laughable character, but shattering the minor development he had at the end of 3 would ruin him.  Besides, I just really want to see what Sony Santa Monica can do with a new IP.  Despite how much acclaim the God of War games receive, no one really talks about them as one of the elite developers.  Three amazing games with three different lead designers across two platforms is pretty impressive.  I'm interested in what they do next.

Agreed, I can't wait for them to create a new IP.  Maybe a MOVE mini-game compilation where you reclaim the role of Kratos and instead of button prompts for the QTE's you act them out.  As fun as that sounds, I don't want to accidentally stab my cat to death, thinking I am the god of war, slaying minotaur.

really i think the franchise needs a take a break. The devs need to think long and hard on how they can add new and interesting twists on the game play. before they run the franchise into the ground. plus i think it be bad ass if there was a four year gap between this game and next. Everyone forgets about Kratos and then E3 rolls around and BAM.  The God Of War has returned to regain his crown.

You know what I think they should do? I think they should let Ready At Dawn make another PSP prequel. Chains of Olympus was fantastic -- by far and away the best game in the series, if you ask me -- and as evidenced by God of War III, Santa Monica are far too obsessed with ZOMG HUEG SCALE and LOL SHINY GRAPHIX to put out anything that actually plays well.

I'm sorry i don't mean to be rude but that's a pretty crappy theory, I think you're overthinking it. How did you even come to that theory based on what Zeus said earlier it seems far-fetched.

The title was referring to the future of the God of War franchise and it said spoilers, so I am pretty sure I gave sufficient warning on what was being discussed.

They need to take a break and introduce a diffrent mythology. Like Norse or something, maybe make Kratos the villain.

Didn't Santa Monica Studios say that they are done with Kratos for now? I think it was in Brad's interview with them.

I'm guessing he means the 'forgotten warrior' skin.
