2010 Review: God of war Collection
I have to make something clear as I'm writing this review in the year 2010 where HD graphics are the rage and the best ever action adventure game was Uncharted 2. So it's easy to say that this game is old and out dated but I had a lot of fun playing it but there where some not so fun parts in there too. Although I never played the game till now I was aware of it's existence the problem was I never had a ps2 and at that time I had an xbox and was a not so avid gamer that I'm now. I always wanted to play God of War (GOW) so I bought the GOW collection for the PS3.
Story
You will be playing as Kratos a soldier that is marked by war in a mythical Greece where god's like Ares, Zeus and mythical creatures as a cyclops are real. You will be set with the task of saving Athens that is under siege by Ares the God of War. You being a mere mortal you will first have to collect Pandora's Box that is hid away on the back of a Titan that is condemned to crawl trough the desert till he dies. You will all do this in the hope that all the sins of your past can be washed away from your memory. Graphics
Knowing this is a game out of 2005 the graphics still look pretty good it's only when the some of the cut scenes are playing you will see that this game was not made for an HD TV although not all of the cut scenes where pixelated and grainy. To be honest this is not a big deal because I already knew this before booting up the game and this was not the reason I bought the game. But I was still very impressed with the scope of the game there are a lot of scenes where in the backdrop you will see a giant Ares or the Titan Cronus dwarfing you. So this combined this the setting and the story make this really feel like an epic game. Although he is a total bad ass I found that Kratos still to be a endearing character.Gameplay
Well this is the reason I bought the game and was most disappointed with the game. The fighting mechanic is actually very well fleshed out with all the upgrades you can unlock by collecting souls by killing enemy's and opening treasure chests but I mostly fell back on one combo ore random button mashing and most of the enemy's you will find will not be very hard to kill that way. It would have been nice that the game explained a bit better how to air juggle an enemy. I found that out a bit to late in the game. But over all the fighting mechanic is fine and fun however I did have problems with with the platforming that I had to do in the later half of the game where the not being able to move the camera really becomes a detriment to the game. Some parts where so frustrating that I had to keep my PS3 on till I calmed down because their where was no area where I could save the game. Thankful there are plenty of checkpoints so I didn't have to do large part of the game over and over and over again so I end up playing only the part over again where I kept on dying and when I thought I was done with that part of the game I found a almost exact copy of that killing contraption. At least when I did get past that section I was pretty proud of my self but it was hard to tell if it was because I past that section ore that I didn't trough my controller on the ground. Also some of the jumps are hard to do because of the fixed camera, the lack of any reference where you will land and hard perception of depth but that is but a minor flaw. There are also some puzzles but nothing that should stop you from finishing this game.
