    From Bungie With Love 12

Right off the bat, let's get one thing straight here. Halo 3: ODST is a Halo game-- more specifically, Halo 3 with some slight tweaks. The core gameplay is all still here, just as strong as it's always been. If you've never been a fan of Halo's style of gameplay however, ODST is not going to change your mind. Some periphery elements have been changed, but at the core there is little different in ODST that will attract new players. That fact might seem elementary, but it's important to remember;...

Sometimes low expectations are a really good thing.. 4

I´ve played through all of the Halo games at least once and I enjoy them as shooters. But I´m not a huge fan of the universe and I don´t think I´ve played the multiplayer even once. I´ve always managed to get caught up in the hype machine for each game but this time I was kind of unaffected by it. I still decided to pick ODST up and boy did I benefit from my low expectations. I went in expecting an ok expansion for Halo 3 but before the campaign was over I ended up feeling like this is my favori...

    Oh, how Dusty. 0

I could’ve sworn that the appetite for Halo was long ago sated. We already got not one but three very sizable shooters. All of which were very similar (albeit incrementally improving) titles that involve largely the same identical marines-hurting-aliens gameplay. Halo 3 was a sufficient finale, offering more of the same chunky levels, all co-op friendly, a strong online component and neatly closing up the story so that the human race need no longer fear the threat of the strange alien alliance...

ODST is a short albeit enjoyable experience. 0

Halo 3: ODST takes place during the ending events of Halo 2 and the beginning of Halo 3. The Covenant have found Earth and are landing in the South African city of New Mombasa. Instead of reprising your old role as the Master Chief you play as an ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) and are known as 'The Rookie.' You also have a squad comprising of five other ODSTs. We are first introduced to the squad as they are preparing to drop down in to New Mombasa, and sooner than you would expect you are in...

Campaign: too short, "detective part" boring. 0

A friend of mine and I like to play Halo on cooperative.  We've finished both Halo 2 and Halo 3 together, so you can imagine we were pretty excited for a new campaign to play through together.   When I purchased Halo 3, he'd come over about once a week and we'd play for a few hours.  It took us about a month of this to beat the first one... it was a pretty good and lengthy quest, and there was a lot of parts we wanted to replay.  Halo 3 ODST took us about two nights of this.  The campaign is far...

Prepare to Drop - Into Halo 3.2 0

Halo 3: ODST is a side story in the Halo universe about a small squad of ODSTs that drop into the city of New Mombasa that exists somewhere in Africa.  This title is intended to have a fundamentally different feel from the core Halo games, since the Master Chief is nowhere to be seen, and you take control of "ordinary humans" in the fight across the city.  Thematically, this works well.  The storyline is based on a group of people, rather than focusing on the one man army that is the Master Chie...

If you were one of those people waiting for Halo 2 with baited breath got the midnight release and took the game home looked at the case saw THE FINAL FIGHT FOR EARTH saw the early E3 videos with the earth combat and it looked awesome awe inspiring then you played 3 levels on earth then off to another halo and you died a little inside this game is for you. More Quality Halo: Fun, But Limited Changes 0

Halo is a great franchise that I've loved and spent a lot of time with, but I can't say I've kept up with Halo 3's multiplayer, largely in part due to DLC eventually becoming pretty necessary to enjoy most of it. Then Halo 3: ODST rolls around, offering a new, unique Halo story with the multiplayer coop that I've loved. A new wave survival mode, that, based off similar attempts, I know I'll love. A whole second disc with all the up to date (for now) map packs so I can finally play the multiplaye...

For a Halo game made by Bungie, this is a disappointment 0

I came into this game with low expectations. From the gameplay videos, interviews, previews, and whatever else I saw, it looked like it was going to be Halo 3, but played from a different perspective with a new game mode added to get some more money.   It turns out that's pretty much what I got. To start off, I'd like to point out that I enjoyed Halo greatly. The second wasn't as great, but the multiplayer kept me playing for hours. The third nearly brought me back to the Halo 1 days in terms of...

    Crash Landing 0

Games like ODST make me wish for a simpler time: a time of PC gaming. It seems like eons ago, but I remember when a developer would make a game, and if they wanted to add content, they would release an expansion pack for another $20 or so. They realized that charging full price for a game they had already released just because they added a few more levels or missions would be a rip off and, more likely than not, no one would buy it. Yet here comes Halo 3: ODST, brazenly waving it's ridiculous $7...

Underwhelming but with some decent ideas 1

Halo has always been about up front, in your face action and ODST attempts to shake up the formula a bit. It’s more or less an expansion off of Halo 3, but it does add some unique components like Firefight that make it stand out.   Hunters are pretty damned scary in this game. Seriously. It may retain the Halo name but once you kick-off the campaign you’ll notice some major changes to the gameplay. For one, you control an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST) who isn’t nearly as...

If you like Halo 3 you will like this 0

Having thoroughly enjoyed the previous Halo games I was looking forward to ODST. Especially since it seems I am one of the few that had fun with the single player in all the previous games. The single player is a bit shorter than any of the previous games, but it is by no means too short for a full game. The story telling method is totally new to the series. It works with the main character being in an over world and finding points to initiate flash back stories. The last piece of the story...

Coming 2yrs after the release of Halo 3 is this tight little expansion, Halo 3 ODST. If you’re a Halo fan, you know what to do, if not, this game won’t change your mind…..8/10. The Good – More Halo, that’s really good to me, which means top notch console first person shooter action. The storyline is a fresh take on the usual formula, you get to see different takes from different character perspectives. It all takes place during Halo 2, basically experiencing a portion of what went down in New M...

SHORT BUT FUN, HALO: ODST PROVES THE HALO UNIVERSE STILL AS LEGS. 0

SHORT BUT FUN, HALO: ODST PROVES THE HALO UNIVERSE STILL AS LEGS. Playing a first-person shooter based Halo game without being the iconic Master Chief is rather odd at first, though in the end it seems to be a welcomed change. WhenBungie Studios first announced Halo: Recon, it was originally intended to be a side expansion built using the Halo 3 engine. A total name change and a new so called 'full game experience' later, ODST looks to offer Halo fans a different take on a now familiar formula. ...

A insubstantial iteration on an all-too-familiar formula 0

The Halo franchise is incredibly popular, and for very good reasons.  The gameplay and visual style are both excellent, and to many gamers out there the narrative surrounding that universe goes right up there with beloved sci-fi settings such as Star Wars.  Still, aside from a few minor changes between each iteration on the series, Bungie has done little to innovate on their own formula.  With Halo 3: ODST, however, they’ve finally stepped away from Master Chief and have given themselves a chanc...

    Great overall package 0

Halo 3: ODST is a very nice follow up to Halo 3 from a couple years back, offering a slightly new approach to the series, while still keeping in tact what you enjoyed about past Halo games. The game offers up an interesting storyline for the most part told through flashbacks that you'll play through as you uncover hints throughout the city. The campaign is relatively short, but is an absolute blast to play with friends. The environments feel a bit more open than past Halo games, which is a put m...

It's recycled content but Bungie made it work 0

Chevy has currently been working on a new Corvette model that uses recycled parts from the current ZR1 model and the older Z06 model and their calling it the Grand Sport. Somehow, someway, Chevrolet put all the parts together to create something is desirable and worth getting.  The same could almost be said about Halo 3: ODST. Bungie has taken pieces from Halo 3 and have reused them to create a new experience that is desirable but not so much worth getting in every case. You have to take ODST fo...

    Oh, DST 0

I have had an unusually hard time writing this review for Halo 3 : ODST, in part, I suspect, because I am so conflicted in how I feel about it.  Half of me (the Halo fanboy half) loves it wholly and completely, while the other half can sometimes find nothing but faults.  ODST is very much like night and day, both literally and figuratively, in that way - inspiring equal parts giddy-adoration and controller-splitting abhorrence.  So, let's start with the bad news, shall we? Oh, DST, how I scorn ...

If you liked Halo 3, you're almost sure to like Halo 3: ODST 0

Halo 3: ODST is not a full-fledged sequel to Halo 3, nor is it an expansion pack in the true meaning of the word. It comes packing with a decently-sized new campaign, and one new multiplayer mode, called Firefight. On top of that, it comes with Halo 3's complete multiplayer package, including all the downloadable content as of yet released for it. If you liked previous Halo games, you'll probably like this one, and at a reduced price, it's most definitely an attractive package.  Despite...

An adventure worth experiencing, but not worth purchasing. 0

Like it or hate it Halo has changed the way shooters are made and the way shooters are perceived on console. It also was also the game that probably justified many people's purchase of an original Xbox. Come Halo 2 and Halo 3 it became very much the same situation. But the fight was finished in Halo 3 and the story of Master Chief came to a climactic end in 2007, however Bungie said that others have yet to finish their fight in the Halo universe and what we got this year was Halo 3: ODST.  ...

    Oh Dear, ST 0

I have been a fan of the Halo series since combat evolved arrived on my, now retired, PC, and so thought it my duty to try this stand alone expansion out for myself. I completed it in two modest evening sessions on Co-Op with a friend on legendary difficulty, and also tried my hand at the new, co-op friendly, Firefight mode. In a nutshell, ODTS’s campaign is essentially one flashback after another, as you play the speechless character, imaginably dubbed, The Rookie, who wakes up after a 6 hour ...

ALSO, THE 3 NEW MULTIPLAYER MAPS CAN NOW BE DOWNLOADED FOR THE ORIGINAL HALO 3.  Alright let's start from the beginning. Halo was revolutionary for it's time, and introduced a lot of gameplay mechanics that we see in FPS's today. Let's jump forward 8 years. With two sequals under it's belt, Halo has become one of the most popular game series of the past two gen...

This game was overall amazing, but since I'm guessing you won't take my word for it, I'll tell you why.First off, I'm not a Halo fanboy. I do like the franchise, but I'm more for CoD myself. Now onto the review.Campaign: I'm guessing a lot of the fans wanted to know what the game was like outside of what Master Chief sees, well then this is the game for you. But this game is also good for newcomers, too. You can see what is happening in New Mombasa. And you get a sort of insight into why the Cov...

I don’t mean to get things off on the wrong foot, but I have a love/hate relationship with Halo 3: ODST.   When I heard I was going to be able to play as one of the second most badassest (now it’s a word) soldiers in the Halo universe, I was pretty pumped.   When I heard I would have to pay $60 for what was originally touted as a 4-hour expansion pack, I was significantly less pumped.                   The story mode in ODST is a significant departure from all 4 previous Halo games, in that m...

I didn't know how I'd feel about playing a Halo title w/out Master Chief, but I had a great time playing through the solo campaign.  I loved the music and visuals, especially playing the Rookie, as it differentiated itself from the other Halo games.  There were a few challenging points in the game, but overall it was very playable and fun.  I haven't played through on legendary co-op yet, and haven't played firefight, but plan to do both.  Switching between characters and what was really a drast...

Halo 3 ODST play much like Halo 3. More like Halo: Combat Evolved, actually. Gone is dual wielding and deployable equipment. Fall damage and the original health model are back. For those unfamiliar with Combat Evolved there a recharging health system called "stamina". Take damage and if you wait long enough with out taking any more you as good as new. If you take to much you'll start taking damage on a base health bar and the only to recover it is finding health packs. To some this will feel lik...

One of the best games I would never recommend 0

Playing through a Halo game is a good exercise in complicated emotions that probably results from a level of cognitive dissonance required for me to enjoy the game. For example, whenever a line of dialog is ever actually spoken, my brain usually has to work over time to fabricate a much better line of dialog to replace the line my sensory organs had just experienced, and filter this information before it ever reaches its intended destination, that being the repressed 12 year old boy hidden benea...

"Does this armor make my ass look fat?" In the interest of full disclosure, I must admit that I’m somewhat of a Halo nerd. I’ve read the books and the comics, spent hours on end investigating the I Love Bees ARG and searching for skulls with fellow Dibcaster Jeremy, and of course, I’ve played all of the games countless times over. Either I’m the best person to review this game, or the absolute worst. I’ll let you decide that after you’re done reading. Despite this being a first-person shoot...

Halo 3: ODST is a solid expansion to Halo 3 0

Halo 3: ODST is the new expansion to Bungie's extremely popular first person shooter Halo 3 which was released two years ago on the Xbox 360. Now it is important to remember this is an EXPANSION, not a full fledged Halo game.    The game puts you in the shoes of an O.D.S.T(Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) simply called the Rookie by your squad mates which is refreshing for a change since previously you were only able to play as the Master Chief and the Arbiter in previous games. The game begins with ...

ODST has caught some flack from various sources for charging full price for less than a full product. I can't totally justify speaking either way because I paid twenty dollars less, but I don't see how the game is worth less than others in the series. It might just come from the fact that there's a 3 in the title and the words "expansion pack" were tossed around early on. The game does feel like a side story, developing events that take place at the same time as the second half of Halo 2, and...

Wandering the empty streets of New Mombasa with my VISR turned on is a unique thing that I never had the chance to do in the previous Halo titles. Exploring the dark, deserted alleys looking for audio files, or a clue as to what happened to my team members is a very deviation from the original Halo games. Sadly, thats all that is new about this game. It is called Halo 3 for a reason, it is essentially Halo 3, but with a slightly different formula. Instead of being launched into a linear story ...

(review originally posted at http://blog.hntdaab.co.uk)   Its an undeniable fact – Halo is one of our favourite pastime’s landmark franchises, up there next to Metal Gear Solid, Mario and Half Life. It has sold over 27 million copies over all the games. In 2007, Halo 3 was released to “finish the fight” to a rapturous audience. Now its expansion/semi sequel is released to perhaps a bit less hype. After all the story of the Chief is over. Who wants to play another Halo game? Well, ODST is a new s...

ODST Shoots to Thrill for Bungie Faithful 0

So Halo 3: ODST thusly came forth from the Heavens to deliver unto the faithful an expanded Halo adventure rooted firmly between the events of Halo 2 and Halo 3, however speaking as one of the faithful I’ve been left with some mixed feelings. Taking Halo in the right direction, interesting and emotive story but ultimately too short. While Firefight is fun, it soon wears thin- the multiplayer segment is great if you've not bought the DLC for Halo 3, but  most people have. I bought it for £30 so didn't feel overcharged. If possible, get the game at a cut price as I did, otherwise the cost is too steep to justify purchase....

As the naming convention of the title suggests, Halo 3: ODST is an expansion. It tells a side story to the main story, and it utilises the Bungie style of gameplay that was in many ways the perfection of that generation of FPS style play. I mean to suggest that the next generation of FPS came with Modern Warfare and its snap-locking scope site style of FPS which is kind of the hallmark of this generation of FPS games.  So, knowing that Halo 3: ODST would be more of the "old" generation of FPS, I...
