A sequel worth all the expectations

Taking place almost immediately after the first Infamous, Cole McGrath defeated Kessler and thereafter learned of a new threat, The Beast. And it's coming. We also learn some of his backstory as well. After that he meets Lucy Kuo, an agent of...get ready for it...the NSA, who takes Cole and his friend Zeke to New Marais (New Orleans) to find South African Doctor Sebastian Wolfe, who helped work on the Ray Sphere Prototype, and she claimed could help amplify his powers. However, when they arrive, they discover that the city, which Cole and Zeke had been to before, had been overrun by an overly religious man known as Joseph Bertrand III and his army of Militia. Not only that, but a group of well-trained mercenaries from South Africa, originally known as Vermaak 88, and now known as the Ice Men are taking over the town, too.

The sequel to 2009's Infamous, InFamous 2, also received a DLC on October 25, 2011 titled Infamous: Festival of Blood. In addition to that, there is an Infamous Collectionreleased for the PlayStation 3 in late 2012, which includes Infamous, Infamous 2, and Infamous: Festival of Blood.

As for Infamous: Festival of Blood, this is a stand alone DLC for Infamous 2 which was released in North America on October 25, 2011 and in Europe one day later. In this game, Zeke tells a story where Cole got turned into a vampire by a woman named Bloody Mary, and has to defeat her vampire hoard, and Mary herself, in order to get back to normal again.

The graphics are still decent for 2011. This is the first game in the series that used motion capture. The game also does a much better job maintaining a stable frame rate compared to the first one. The soundtrack in addition is great.

The story is much better in this game, with better written themes about vengeance, forgiveness, betrayal, sacrifice, and what it means to be a hero and a villain. The story is also more emotional this time around, especially BOTH of the possible endings. Infamous 2 also has some great twists, too. Even the characters are better in this game, including the new characters! Cole in particular was completely overhauled, being made into more of a wise-cracker and having a more fleshed out personality this time around.

The melee combat is improved from it's predecessor with the introduction of the Amp. You can even buy different finishing moves with your experience points. Traversing the city is also improved in this game. Not only is your grinding much faster, and your hovering ability can lift you in the air slightly, but you can also fly up pipes in the sides of buildings and you can climb fences. Regarding that last one, Sucker Punch even put a trophy in the game when you climb your first fence. When traversing the open world you can sometimes find two factions fighting each other, which makes the world feel even more alive than before. Unfortunately, there isn't a walking speed when moving, only two running speeds.

Like the first game, there is an upgrade system that allows Cole to improve his powers. What he can unlock depends on his Karmic alignment. Speaking of powers, some of his old powers (like hovering and grinding) are available from the start, so there's no need to unlock them again.

The side missions were also improved in this game. Not only do they seem a lot less repetitive, but the good side missions represent one of the new characters, Lucy Kuo, and the evil side missions represents another one of the new characters, Nix (yes, that's really her name). Even the karma system is much more meaningful in this game. This includes having Kuo and Nix, who represents Good Karma and Evil Karma respectively, but also having an ending which is completely different if you finish it good (an absolutely beautiful ending in the hero side, by the way) or evil, unlike the first game which only had slight differences. Cole also gains access to 2 new powers from allies Kuo and Nix; Kuo gives him Ice powers, Nix gives him Flame powers.

There are three factions in the world just like in the previous game, but instead of being divided by three districts, they're all fighting for the same district. The bosses are also incredible. Some fights, however, tend to be a little cheap at times, like being surrounded on all sides by huge numbers of enemies when trying to restore power to a new district.

It's still glitchy and has bugs in it, but it at least added a User-Generated Content feature where you can create your own levels and play others, and it also got updated with PlayStation Move support which actually works really well.

Forget about Portal 2, play this. Right. Now.

There's an easy distinction between an open world game, and a sandbox. Open world games primarily use their open world mostly as a setting alone to portray realistic interactions, show off impressive environments and to mostly push the story forward, like Mafia 2, L.A Noire and for a less recent example, Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Sandboxes, on the other hand, are mostly striving to give you a giant playground full of opportunities for mayhem, carnage, destruction and many more terms relating to ma...

Zeke still sucks, but that's about all that does. 0

Infamous 2 is a hard game to place, they’ve changed so much about it while leaving so much of it the exact same. Yet it still manages to feel like a unique open world experience with a ton of content and a lot of replay ability. It’s a game for comic fans, open world fans, or even to some extent third person shooter fans. It reaches a broad audience and it mish mashes all these different genres and play styles into one gorgeous, fun to play and well told story. Cole's Character Model still loo...
