Isabelle is the player's assistant in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. In her role of secretary for the mayor's office, she supports the player in his or her mayoral duties. In the early stages of the game, she also helps acclimate the player to town by providing a series of introductory activities to pursue. She has a twin brother, Digby, who manages the game's StreetPass features at the town's gate to the Happy Home Showcase.

Each time the player starts the game, Isabelle greets the player to confirm the time of day, and then prepares the town. She also informs the player of any special events, such as new residents in town.

Name and Appearance

Isabelle and her brother, Digby, are both dogs. Her Japanese name, Shizue, is a possible reference to her breed (shih tzu). In English, "Isabelle" may be a reference to the bells she wears, which jingle as she walks around. Isabelle is a yellow dog with rosy cheeks and a white muzzle. She normally wears a white blouse adorned with a red bow, a green plaid sweater vest, and a blue skirt, although her shirt may change if the current day is a holiday. Her hair is pulled back into a ponytail with a red band that has two small bells on it. When she walks around, you may hear the bells on her hair tie jingle.

While friendly, she can be very forgetful. The player cannot visit Isabelle's house, but she explains that her things are still in boxes, so the player probably wouldn't want to visit, anyway. She often expresses a desire to do things other than work, such as visit the nearby island, but she is too busy to do so.
