Mario Kart seems to have lost a bit of the magic it had
Mario Kart Wii is the sixth game in the legendary Mario Kart series so how does it compare to the others.
Well the Grand Prix mode is now up to 12 racers instead of 8 and the game for the first time features bikes but it seems as though it has lost its fun factor in Grand Prix Mode. There are 32 tracks 16 old and 16 new and some are actually quiet boring to race on and some require more luck than skill if you are to get first epsically in 150cc. The bikes get rammed by the karts and if you are on a coursen that has no barriers like Rainbow Road the most likely possiblity is you will get knocked off the track. Also if karts ram bikes the bikes virtually stop. You have an automatic and a manual option. Automatic means you can't drift or do powerslides but its easier to control and ,manual means you can but its harder to steer. You powerslide on basically what colour the boost is if it's blue then youpowerslide a little bit but if you wait longer and it turns yellow you get a bigger boost.
There are about 26 characters and they each have alot of vechiles you can choose but mostly there is no difference between each characters vechiles. You can use the Wii mote, the Wii mote and Nunchuck, the Classic Controller and the Wii Wheel as options of how you want to play the game. Newcomers will probably use the Wii Wheel. Don't worry the Gamecube Controller is avialable for Mario Kart veterans.
The online is best thing about this game you can get at least 12 players in a race or battle mode at once. It's a shame battle mode has you in teams though should have been in single player. In Grand Prix though though you can race until you get fed up and at the end of each race you get ranking points based on your final position but the more points you gain the more you lose. Say if you have 9000 points and come 2nd you will lose some so it does get difficult and the ranking points only go up to 9999 points it a shame there isn't a leaderboard for that really and unlike Mario Kart DS you don't get the track voted the most popular it is completely a random track so if you think 8 out of 12 people choose Luigi Curcuit and the rest choose differently then there is always a chance you might get that curcuit. Online though altogether is the best part because it suffers from no lag at all. All the power ups are there from previous games but there are some new ones as well.
The good thing about the game is if you have Wii friends you can send them a message and it will appear on their message board and you can trade data like time trial data and also find out when they are online. The sound is okay and the graphics don't match the standards set by Mario Galaxy,Metroid Prime 3 and Super Smash Bros Brawl.
Overall it has plenty to keep you going loads of unlockables and things to do. Online is in my opinion the best thing about this game but overall I am slighty dissapointed by this game. Its fun but I expect a little better.
