After seeing the scans of the sixth squad member (The Prothean) I think it's a cool idea. The fact that, as of right now he's only obtainable with the collector's edition of the game, makes it a bit more acceptable that they went a little crazy with him as a character.

Also what do you think about EDI? I'm fine with her getting a body, but why'd they have to go over-sexualized the robot body?

I don't know how it is explained in the story, I saw the pics and the designs are cool but whatever. I'll wait and see how Edi works.

Yeah, I loved the new squad member but I can't really REALLY not understand why they have to do that to EDI. She was a great character, just a disembodied voice that worked great with Joker.

This is going to sound racist, but: If that voice clip is real... I will spend the ENTIRE game thinking the Prothean will say "TRUE DAT!" at one point. It will drive me mad.

My gut is telling me "Rawwgasgasdg oh god why!"

But my brain says "Hey, asshole. Wait until you see them both in action".

really cynical and fan-servicey. Is the Mass Effect team being extremely closely monitored/controlled by EA's money people now? Because these kinds of decisions don't seem like ones that Bioware would normally make.

I'm in the same boat, but I still can't believe what they did to Ashley. I'm still sour about that. Ashley's whole deal was that she's this tough, rugged tomboy and, from the looks of things, they took all that away just to give people 'another hot character.' This bums me out because I know I'm one of the few people that actually like her too. Let's not even bullshit here: they made her look like Miranda as much as they could while still making her look like Ashley.

Same thing goes for Jack. I don't know what they've done to her appearance, but, from the sound of things, they made her 'softer and more mature' which I can only take to mean "hey, we made another hot character. You guys are cool with that right?" Don't get me wrong, clearly they tried to make her hot in ME2 by giving her nothing to wear but leather straps, but I don't think that's what most people took away from her character. I think most people just saw this fucked up girl who clearly had some issues to work out rather than just seeing a half-naked girl whose all tatooed up. When the words soffter and more mature are thrown around, all that says to me is that those are now the defining traits and her badass-ness and smartass-ness have now taken a back seat. Clearly I don't know for sure what they've done with her though. Let is be know that I'm just speculating off of minor details that could mean nothing in the grand scheem of things.

I know Bioware can do what they want with their game and I haven't played it so I don't know what everyone's really going to be like and etc etc, but it just feels like they're officially pandering to the lowest common denominator with some of theiir decisions. We already had eye candy and that was Miranda. We already have the hot alien chicks with Liara and Tali. So why make some of the choices they're making? Again, I'm very well aware I may be overreacting here, but when I look at these things and take them at face value, I'm just a bit disappointed is all :sadface:

I don't get why people consider that racist. It is an actual accent from Africa. Although it seems to be the go-to accent when you need someone to speak in an African accent (it's a big continent they gotta have more than one accent). I mean just picture this guy...

on the deck of the Normandy talking with Commander Shepard with that accent. I think it's going to sound very badass and if they have some great dialogue he is going to be one of my favorite squad members. Also that armor is wicked.

When the reapers took the protheans as slaves and turned them into collectors, some conversions failed and the result is collectoresque in appearance but retains the prothean mind

I've fallen in that trap before. That's why I'm waiting until I beat the game before I look at that thing. The temptation will be really hard during the install.

Edit - Wait, never mind. I don't know now. How can this not be in everyone's game? The Prothean's are a big part of the story I'd think. Like some others have said, yeah, I'm not sure about that voice. I guess a part of me is being racist if that what you want to call it, but I can't imagine an ancient race sounding like that. It's like if God came down and started speaking like Jacob from GTA4.

Have they said whether or not this dude will be available for PURCHASE on day one? I really want that badass sounding mothereffer in my squad, but got screwed out of a CE pre-order by GameStop. Errrgh...

I think he sounds pretty bad ass and the design looks cool too. Looks like I am getting my wish. I was hoping there were still some Protheans out there and that one would be my squad member. I have been wanting that since the first Mass Effect. Bioware read my damn mind.
