Tried out different FOVs in Dead Island. Their graphics engine is pretty neat, this would run great even on my laptop.
Default, I think it was 62.580 turned out to be the sweet spot, 90 started getting weird110. Nope. 100 worked great in DE:HR so I went ahead and tried.
@ervonymous: Are there finally some FOV tweaks? That was the only thing keeping me from absolutely loving the game, I would start feeling a bit nauseous sometimes.
One more for good measure, tweaked everything I got my hands on. Increased shadow quality, 8xAA, anisotropy, works with crossfire and all that good stuff. Starting to look like a game I can get behind.
@SeriouslyNow: PhysX on high totally dropped the frame rate for the first 5 minutes of gameplay, on the new machine! Then it started to run smoother until the FPS was fixed on 30+
You need 7zip to open the Data0.pak file, then just slap <prop n="CameraDefaultFOV" v="your desired value"/> with notepad in there.
Changing the FOV won't get you VAC banned, especially not for a game that doesn't have competitive multiplayer. Making an aimbot for TF2 would, but you can modify the FOV in TF2 to 180 degrees without fear of VAC ban.
That page does warn that there's the possibility of VAC ban because of the files being modified but I wouldn't worry too much.
@IncredibleBulk92: Yeah I figured as much, just wanted to put it up as a disclaimer in case anything goes rotten. I'm okay with modifying a simple .ini file but having to dig deep just to change shadow quality and FOV is crazy.
They have figured out a way to mod the FOV that's relatively safe from VAC banning. You don't have to edit anything as you can put files in /DeadIsland/out/Data (in my documents) and the game will load those files before it loads the ones in Data0.pak.
Even so, VAC a. Only bans on an engine basis, and being banned from playing Chrome 5 engine games on Steam servers isn't a particularly big deal and b. I think it focuses more on modifiying dlls or hooking into the .exe, modding the FOV does neither.

Finished Space Marine a few days ago, took me 6 hours. Been playing the Multiplayer stuff after that, its pretty fun, when its not lagging.

Yeah 22" is fine, but your card would have no issue handling 1080p. Actually Space Marine is pretty damn good, i guess you got to have a thing for Warhammer 40K to really like it. But they did some very interesting things with the main character, he doesn't sound like his mouth is filled with gravel, he is very calm and well spoken.
I am going to upgrade my GPU to a GTX 580 or 590 soon, can't wait to post some awesome screenshots!
You should wait, if AMD releases their 7000 series sometime in Q4. A price drop might be coming. I have been eyeing a GTX 580 and a 6970 for some time now. But i know i would hate my self if i got one now, and new shit dropped before the end of 2011.

Still have some catching up to do, been playing it for 2-3 hours online, its pretty fun. But i agree with you, people are obnoxious with their headsets, either its loud tinny music, heavy breathing, burping and crunching, or loud fucking keyboard sounds.
@pornstorestiffi: Yeah once you get to the 30s the leveling rate slowssss awayyy down. Hopefully when the Last stand patch comes in it will make getting those challenge done a lot easier.
I've been taking a break from my steam account and decided to actually finish Ultima 7 Black Gate.
So what do in this mod? anything special about it.
It's a Dear Esther type mod - it's mainly just exploring and reading notes. Actually, to be honest, I found Call of the Fireflies to be a better exploration/adventure Crysis mod. I suppose I may as well post some screens from that too: I'm sure this wasn't supposed to happen =\ but it looks cool anyway.
Played some more Hard Reset, game is balls hard i think. But it looks very good, captured a video of the lighting in the metro, where the last screenshot is from.
