I prefer Want You Gone but that's just me.
Portal 2
Game » consists of 20 releases. Released Apr 19, 2011
Portal 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed first-person puzzle game, carrying forward its love of mind-bending problems and its reckless disregard for the space-time continuum.
Still Alive vs. Want You Gone (potential spoilers)
At first I still thought Still Alive was a better song, but after my second time through Portal 2, that song is starting to get to me.
Still Alive certainly had a bigger impact though.
Im having a hard time deciding... I think the version of Still Alive where Jonathan Coulton is singing it, is the best... But when GLaDOS is singing the song, I perfer Want You Gone... So I guess I really want to hear a version of Want You Gone, Where Jonathan Coulton is singing it...
Still Alive is better, but I just realised I have Want You Gone stuck in my head :o
Also, there's a spoiler right in the title (right next to where you wrote potential spoilers). I know that before I finished the game I wouldn't have wanted to know the name of the ending song.
Want You Gone is a much more Jonathan Coultony song, it's more distinctively his style and not nearly as iconic for being so.
I actually prefer 'Want You Gone.' Maybe it's because Still Alive got played out for me. I still really like both songs though.
I prefer Still Alive, but I actually really like the song the Turrets sing as you are riding the elevator up to the surface, the song with the operatic voice.
" Also, there's a spoiler right in the title (right next to where you wrote potential spoilers). I know that before I finished the game I wouldn't have wanted to know the name of the ending song. "exactly
" stating that there IS an ending song, is a spoiler "Not really. This is the sequel to Portal after all.
It's a hard decision. "Still Alive" was genius and had a bigger impact because you were totally not expecting something like it. "Want You Gone" is hilarious and great credits song, I'd even say it's actually funnier if you played the first game beforehand. GLaDOS is always trying to kill Chell but she finally realizes Chell is too much of a pain in the ass so she allows her to be free just to get her out of the way. I found that pretty funny.
Still Alive will permanently win on the surprise factor. There's no way to dethrone it; you never saw it coming if you were able to play it before everyone started talking about it, and even if you heard about it, you probably weren't ready for it. There's no way Want You Gone could've ever hoped to have won on surprise or humor factor.
I think that Still Alive was the perfect end to Portal, so I don't know how my expectations could have been topped. That said, Want You Gone is a really catchy and fun song. I think that Still Alive is going to stand the test of time and be remembered more fondly than Want You Gone.
I agree. Still Alive will forever be the "Portal song". I think Want You Gone is catchier and, for me at least, provides a lot of closure for the Portal series. Also, the [REDACTED] joke had me laughing so fucking hard.
I think Want You Gone is the better song. Thing is, Still Alive started out great because it had that "Holy crap, glados is singing to me?" moment.
WYG on the other hand, kinda started in the red because it would have been terribly disappointing if there had been no song at all. It had to live up to expectations rather than shattering (nonexistant?) expectations.
I like them both for different reasons. Still Alive is funnier, and was more unexpected. I think I like Want You Gone more as a song. It's also really damn catchy. It made the ending very sweet.
