So, with the next iteration of PoP, we're getting a new and quite unique artistic direction.
So, my question is, what is your take on it?
Personally, I am in love. I dig the character designs, and the contrast the characters have on the sorrounding environment. The style has a lot of personality, and I know I'm going to love playing this game.
Prince of Persia
Game » consists of 21 releases. Released Dec 02, 2008
A 2008 entry into the Prince of Persia franchise titled simply "Prince of Persia", this game stars an all-new Prince as he teams up with the mysterious Elika to fight Ahriman and cleanse the world of his corruption.
The new art style: Yay or nay?
I feel like I need to see more of it before I can really decide, but I'm optimistic. The only thing that has me worried is that sometimes it feels like the characters really stick out from the background, and not in a good way. I dunno, sometimes it just seems like they don't quite fit.
I really love the art style of the game and hope more games choose this direction. Afro Samurai has a similar style and that's the only reason I'm interested in that game. My only problem with the art of the new PoP game is that I don't really like the Prince's look. I don't know what I'd rather see him look like, but I don't really like him in his current state.
I am a huge fan of that style of art/graphics.
Cel-shaded, but not too cel-shaded. Like Crackdown. You feeling me?
I absolutely love it. 1 part Crackdown, 2 parts Okami, all parts rad. I thought the E3 trailer, with the music choice and everything, was amazing.
Well, I've always adored cel shading, so I loved the style from the start. And after seeing some gameplay, I began to love it a little bit more. The first game in the most recent Prince of Persia-trilogy was great, the other two felt too depressing. That's just what I think. This new artistic direction and the new gameplay elements promise something new, fresh and exciting. Ubisoft is far from my favorite game developers, but they have some good games on their resume. Like the already mentioned Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and also Beyond Good and Evil and XIII (I'm most likely forgetting some game, so don't shoot me).
My excitement gauge is set at "Incredibly excited" and the only way I am going to survive whilst waiting is to start playing some good RPG. Maybe Suikoden V?
I really enjoy it. I love cel-shading I think it is a great art style that really stands out in a game. Realism is cool I guess, but the whole reason I play games is to not really think about the real world, cause lets face it. If we want realistic graphics then just go outside. Crazy and different art styles allow developers to make crazy and different worlds.
Yay, I like it a lot. I've never been able to get into PoP but now that it is a new story and practically a new game I might check it out. I love cell shaded games.
Meh. I loved Jet Set Radio Future (about the only cel-shaded game I've played) but it seems out of place somehow here.
Oh, and they can call it "Illustrative" all they want, it's still cel-shading. But I've got no real problem with it.
My problem with the way this game looks is more with the animation. There was a gameplay video on gametrailers (some other topics have embedded it) and they've taken away all the realistic touches that made him so convincing, even when he was completely over the top. It seems the journey into cartoon land has prompted them to take the animation into Ninja Gaiden-like territories.
God, this franchise has gone downhill since Mechner left. And that was friggin' years ago!
I'm gonna go be depressed now.
I like the bright colors and such but the game kinda looks cartoonish..I guess I gotta see more of it before I make a concrete decision....
Yay, and it's easy to see why. The first PoP for PS2 was a great and bright looking game. Colorful and vast. Then the 2nd game came along and got a bit darker, and the 3rd one just suffered from the direction they went with the art direction. This new PoP is looking great, reminds me of Sands of Time.
I absolutely love the new art style. I think it looks beautiful and I would love to see more games go in this direction. That being said, I am not a fan of the new Prince's character design at all. If there was anything I would like them to change before release...it's the way the Prince looks in the game.
I think they needed to change the art style of POP game since they should leave realism for Assassin's Creed 2
