Souls combat, size of a Bethesda open world, Diablo loot mechanics, with a central amazing story line and flowery dialogue like Legacy of Kain, but with also populated with a lot of randomly generated characters and interactions that are just as interesting but only 1/1000th as crazy as Dwarf Fortress.

My guess it is shame for enjoying a passtime for kids, the general awkwardness of playing with some strangers children and the idea of pre-pubescent children not being skilled enough yet.

Games and depression do not correlate with me. I also do not know that one ever did more than to distract me. One of the things that keeps me going though is this sense of agency that games instill. Sure it's fragile, but I can't seem to get rid of it.

If they could do a RE1 REmake-style remaster (changing enemy placement, adjusting boss patterns, redesigning areas) for Dark Souls 1, that would be pretty cool.

The downside for that, though, is if they ARE making that, that probably means they haven't been working on a new Souls game or property.

And of course there's also the possibility this is a much more straightforward remake that exists simply to port the existing game to new hardware with improved visuals, bug fixes and other slight adjustments. The upside to that is that makes it more likely a new Souls game or property is probably being made.

I disagree. I think DS1 is Mario 1 levels iconic that changing enemy and loot placement wouldn't be worth it. DS2 SotFs didn't do that much to engage the fanbase that felt left down either.

If there is something I think they should change for a remaster, it would be to improve the later areas. Izalith in particular is pretty bad.

But that's the sort of stuff that doesn't usually get done for remasters. It's too much work, and it's usually outsourced to a different team that doesn't want to step on any toes.

That I agree with. Effort aside you are right about Izalith.

Minecraft - even with the wiki open to the side, once you got the hang of the mechanics I played so much the world was starting to be blocky. That broke down after you realize not that much is out there, but the initial magic was there.

Really, and all this time I thought it's just some kinda visual chatroom for teens like WoW or some other "game" like that. Is it really anything more than that?

I think so. When I played it back then with the people and set up some private servers, the world did have that feeling of not knowing what was out there which made it immersive. I think Terraria had way more and actual surprises than Minecraft even after the update, but the procedural magic was gone. I was actually thinking of replacing Minecraft with Dwarf Fortress since I've been playing that recently, but I'm not sure it's immersive to me either for the same reason as Terraria.

I'm not sure I understand why fans of the properties should be concerned over bad business practices.

Talking business this is not unexpected, since business is good for Disney so why not buy, buy, buy. Stuff can then later be sold off again or in the worst case gets buried forever. New competition and properties will hopefully arise.

The lesson: Don't get attached to fiction. Go look at new smaller stuff with a clear end and ruin yourself on the big long running stuff. Read or better yet, write your own MCU fanfiction and make up your own canon so you can never enjoy anyone else's ever again!
