7: when raids happen they break structures if you don't defend. This stops resource creation at those structures, and they cost resources to repair. I once lost over 1000 caps worth of water crop because a raid damaged my water generators. They also break turrets which then need repair, and can sometimes kill settlers which hurts your economy.
Shit, this is the thing I was most worried about. My Sanctuary settlement is (or seems like it would be) pretty secure right now as I have machine gun turrets on the corners of the roofs of basically every building. So unless the range is a LOT shorter than I think it is, there isn't really anywhere* you can go that's not in the line of sight of at least 4 or 5 turrets.
*Except for down by the river, where all my water purifiers are. Ugggghhhhh. At the very least, I've got like 1300 purified waters stockpiled that I can sell for caps if I ever need a BUNCH of money.
