Rorie is wonderful. And he loves cool art.

I'm very sad to see him go, but I'm happy that it sounds like he's leaving for something that's great for him (whatever that is). Lord knows he's earned a change of pace from all those support emails.

@rorie: You know what? This might be an iPad/iOS specific thing, which could be interesting. Because I just went to get a screenshot on my desktop computer and I was indeed able to scrub through just fine.

When watching stuff on my iPad (using Safari, latest iOS), I'll pull up a video and it acts like it only loads it in chunks. I can scrub forward a few minutes, then the bar extends, then I'll scrub forward a few more minutes, and the bar extends again... For a really long video it can take forever to get to, say, the middle.

I can try to grab a screen recording if that would be helpful. Just tell me where to send it.

I completely understand why the video player was switched out and the situation the staff finds itself in, and I feel for the engineers who now have to field a lot of new requests for our weird but awesome little corner of the internet.

That said, just to add a comment to the pile in case it helps sway The Powers That Be to prioritize some fixes, the Fandom player was very clearly not designed or developed with long (especially hour-plus) videos in mind. The way it doesn't let you scrub through an entire video when you load it is miserable, and as others have noted, not being able to continue where you left off is a really disappointing loss if you can't watch a three hour Bombcast all in one day.

Honestly, even just being able to more reliably and intentionally select the YouTube player would help. Obviously I could just go straight to YouTube, but then I've gotta deal with the mid-roll ads.

Fingers crossed that the engineering team is given the time to look into this stuff and can figure it out.

Editing to add: Big thanks to you, Rorie, for sifting through all this stuff and passing the info on.

I take some issue with your title because reviews are personal opinion, but I see what you're getting at with your post.

Short answer is that there's nothing wrong with you. There are plenty of people with tastes that don't line up with "the consensus," whether it's on an individual game or generally. For me it has often gone the opposite way, where I have liked a particular game or movie a lot more than my fellow critics (I think I liked Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 more than most, for example, and I was in the correct half of professional critics that gave the 2017 Power Rangers movie a positive score), but that's fine. Tastes are different.

It does get almost frustrating when you can't see the "fun" in something though, I admit that. Despite being seemingly universally beloved, I have started Undertale twice and have never managed to get more than a few hours into it, feeling like it's "fine" but not mind-blowing. There might be something later that I'm missing, and it's on my list of games to go back and finish one day, but I do feel like I'm missing out sometimes.

LittleBigPlanet feels like an appropriate game to have earned my first trophy in, back in 2009.

Elden Ring would be Froms best game if Sekiro didn't exist.

Well, it's no Lost Kingdoms, but OK.

As for Elden Ring, it's the first and only From Soulslike game that I've ever gotten the Platinum trophy in. It grabbed me and didn't want to let go.

I don't know if this is part of why I loved it so much or not, but I didn't have a problem with the "filler," because I didn't see it that way. To me, Elden Ring presents a gigantic world in which I can just point in a direction and go, knowing I'll find something that way eventually. I never felt like I had to do it all, even though I did end up doing everything there was a trophy for.

But to each his own. While I'm excited to play another Elden Ring-style adventure from From, I hope they also make more of the "traditional" style Souls games in the future, too.

For every person who is genuinely angry that it's not a 1-to-1 remake of the game they loved, hopefully there's at least a person like me who loved Remake because it was so different. I've always thought the original FFVII is good but treated with too much reverence ("overrated" is too strong a word, I think).

I didn't much care to revisit the exact same game again, and I went into Remake thinking it would be fine but nothing special. I ended up really loving it in large part because of the ways it subverted my expectations. I want to see where they take the story next.

I've been really enjoying Diablo Immortal, both on phone and PC. I pretty much agree with everything in the OP. I'm at level 37 or something (I think), haven't spend a dime, and I'm still having fun.

That said, I'm not really an expert in "endgame Diablo." All I did in D3 was get a handful of characters up to the max level and invested some paragon points. So I don't know if that part of the game will disappoint fans or not. But so far it's everything I, personally, was hoping it would be.

@bludgeonparagon: Yeah, sorry, I actually should have prefaced my post to say that most of it wasn't directed at you. You just happened to have a good jumping off point in what you said.

I do think (hope?) that a lot of the rampant and unhealthy speculation is starting to die down as the dust is settling.

Gerstmann departing is a huge bummer (and so far it doesn't look like we're getting a clear explanation from him as to why)...

I think a ton of people in this thread (and elsewhere, like Twitter) are wanting something to be "clear" when that might literally be impossible. You want a reason, some specific thing to point to and say, "Aha, THIS is why X happened," but life just doesn't always work that way.

I have watched many, many people leave a job with no reason other than, "It was time for something new," which seems to be more or less what Jeff has said about his departure. That's it. There's no hidden message there, no secret "Well, but actually it was X Y and Z." It's just as simple as was stated: They wanted to do something new.

Jeff has been with Giant Bomb for 14 years, and he's been doing "corporate games journalism" for far longer than that. He's stood tall (literally and figuratively) in an industry that most people jump ship from far quicker than that. Many of his peers have moved on or even retired at this point. He also has two small children at home, which, lemme tell you, can be exhausting.

Trying to speak on other people's behalf when you don't even know them is gross. And yes, I know that it probably feels like you know Jeff because you've spent years with his voice in your ears and his face on your screens, but that's not the same thing.
