Melee is the obvious and objective answer given the Gamecube's portability gimmick.

However, I'd say RE1 remake is my personal choice. It represented a series of "mature" games released during that time designed to compete with the PS2 and XBOX. This included games like RE0, RE4, and MGS: The Twin Snakes. Kept me interested with the Gamecube for a longer period of time.

I understand what you mean. The term “gamer” is the video game equivalent to “metalhead”. It kind of has as negative connotation if you don’t associate yourself with that culture. So in a way I think you can be a person who plays video games but not be a “gamer” just like you can be a fan of metal but not be a metalhead.

Hi!

I actually have a degree in classical guitar. If I had to share a few tip they would be:

1. Practice slow...like really slow and accurately. Speed will come. The idea is if you make mistakes while you practice you are just training yourself to make those same mistakes.

2. Short and consistent practice everyday is better than practicing 8 hrs in one day once a week. Playing an instrument is like playing a sport only you just use your hands. If someone ran 8 hrs once a week in a day they probably would just overtrain, not become a better runner.

3. Don’t get bogged down with music theory...at first. Music theory will help you understand the “why” but does not necessarily make you a better performer. It does become useful later but might just burn you out at the beginning.

4. Learn to read music. There definitely is a learning curve to this so don’t stress too hard about it at first. However, not only will you be able to learn music more quickly you will also understand it better at an instinctual level. It’s like the difference between being illiterate and being able to read. Just an overall useful tool/skill.

5. HAVE FUN!!! Manage your expectations. You want to avoid burnout as much as possible. Unless you’re a genetic powerhouse, progress will be slow. Just enjoy the ride. You will eventually get better.

That’s all I can think of at the moment. Hope this helps!

@bigsocrates:

The slow pacing of the game gives me mixed feelings. It was around the hospital segment that I started to get pretty bored. However, once you control Ellie again at the final segment I realized that the length of the Abby campaign (and the game in general) was almost necessary in a way. It’s like you had to marinate in Abbys world to get a certain feeling of conflict right as Ellie begins her final mission to kill her. I understand that brute force method may of not of worked for many but it did for me.

The farm segment in my opinion kinda acted as a false epilogue to me. It really gave me a “are we really doing this” feeling that intensified the last part of the game.

Overall, I had a great time with the game. Not gonna call it a masterpiece story wise though.

Generally, I can understand why a huge fan of TLOU 1 would think the story to be underwhelming. At the end of the day it is a straightforward revenge tale. Watching a movie like Kill Bill would probably be more satisfying. However, I will give Naughty Dog its props where deserved. If there was one singular goal it is for the player to develop a “damn…I think that Abby might be a better person than Ellie” type of feeling. One forgets who’s side there on. I might just be an idiot but that totally worked on me. I personally did not feel that way until the very beginning of the last chapter. Also, I think a big reason it works is because it’s a 20-hour video game and not a movie. You spend a significant amount with the characters…makes a huge difference.
