This`ll be the first year I drop COD. After playing BF3 on PC since release, I decided yesterday to spend my MW3 money on a new video card instead.

I don't mind "everyone" playing as Jedi when the time-period canon allows it. They're writing a new chapter in Star Wars, and I think we need to open our minds a little to changes from the original trilogy. Its way better to let many people experience playing as Jedi, than just a few elite-grinders like was the case in Galaxies.

Sure. All I`m saying is that this particular time-period canon was interesting enough for two 15 hour single player RPGs, but not enough to have me pay a monthly fee for several years. And not when it looks like WoW in space (the childish cartoon design, which sure is cool, but still childish cartoon design).

And to me, what makes Star Wars so special and awesome, isn`t necessarily the individual pieces but how they`re put together. The force alone isn’t really that cool, as seen in the new films. But in the old ones there were only a handful of people who could use it. THAT`S what made it so special and mysterious and awesome. In this game even smugglers are going to be outnumbered by the people who use the force and grenades are likely rarer than lightsabers.

Sure, maybe that`s interesting in some way, but it`s not what made Star Wars into the phenomenon it is.

It looks nothing like the clone wars cartoon, and looks like KOTOR..since you know..that's the time period it's set in. The Old Republic.

Yes and no. The overall design looks to me like a blend of KOTOR and Clone Wars. But what really makes it resemble the last one is the cartoon/cel shaded look of it. The original kotor didn`t intentionally try to look like a cartoon. It tried to look as realistic as games could in 2003. This one on the other hand, I think, deliberately uses this look to cater to fans of the cartoon AND of World of Warcraft, rather than people like me.

I`m not saying I don`t like the look/design of this particular game, or the KOTOR fiction. I think kotor was a valid and extremely interesting spin off. But, of course, nowhere near as compelling as the original timeline/movies. I mean, I played galaxies, even though it was a pretty shitty game, solely because of it being Star Wars. This though isn`t Star Wars to me, but a cartoon-looking spin off trying to cash in on WoW.

I bet it`s going to be a great game. And it does have a really cool look.. If you like WoW/Clone Wars and doesn`t mind everyone being a jedi.

Also, I think you underestimate the number of people who grew up with star wars and are now in their 20-30s. For many of those people the original trilogy is still star wars.

This. I`m 30+. I and my wife used the Star Wars main theme in church when we got married. I have several Star Wars tattoos. I`m drinking coffee right now from a giant Darth Vader head;p

When I look at this game though, I see a hybrid of WoW and the Clone wars cartoon and 3 of the worst movies ever made. I know this is Star Wars to a lot of people these days, but not to me. Not interested.

Does this new game have anything to do with the old spyro games or is he really just thrown in there for name recognitions sake?

This is exactly what they`ve done. They’ve used the name of a fairly known franchise to help boost interest in a new one. This is definitely a Skylanders game and not a Spyro game. He`s just one of 30 heroes split into 8 different elemental categories. Me and my son have played this for 2 days now and not even used Spyro himself except for opening an optional door which needed a magic element character.

Finally, this is NOT for adults. My 6 year old on the other hand is completely blown away by seeing these toys being magically transported through this cool glowing magical portal, into a videogame world where he can fight monsters and buy upgrades etc. He`s so into being a “portal master” that he even brought an extra pillow for his skylanders when he went to bed.

I really don`t know what to think. I tried Metro on Xbox yesterday and was quite disappointed. Reminded me too much of CoD, and it certainly didn`t look as good as I thought it would. Then I watched this.. 23 min of Caspian border PC game play on highest settings. The size of the map, the particle effects, the lightning, the vehicles. It all looks AWESOME! But it also looks like a COMPLETELY different game from what I played yesterday.

The birth of my son. Sharing my passion of video games with him and to see him loving it. To hear him explain StarCraft 2 (his favorite game) to me with the same excitement and joy as I have for the games I love. To be able to genuinely share an interest and enjoy it equally even though he`s six and I`m 30+. That feels pretty epic to me, every day.

" Seeing how young everyone in this thread is makes me feel old. "

This.

I remember coming from band practice with my first girlfriend in one hand and a beer in the other, dressed in my black jacket with Axl Rose printed in pink on the back, when I heard Kurt Cobain had died. Think it was the same year I saw Metallica live for the first time.
