Aw, that's a shame. He was only 54. So young. That's tragic.
He was a very talented artist. RIP

This is considered heresy by those that... like to create fights online with people who don't like the games they like, but I believe Resident Evil 4 was when Resident Evil began a down hill trend. Resident Evil had gone meh at RE3 and then became bad at RE4. I never thought it was a good game. It's not scary, and it's action focused but doesn't play well enough to handle that. The attempts at scares are all flat and the gameplay is tedious which ruins the action focus. It just doesn't work and it never has for me.

I realize people like it, and that's fine there's nothing wrong with liking things even when they're bad. I'll never stop saying it. Just because you like something doesn't mean it's good. It's why I prefer to call entertainment "fun" or "enjoyable" when referring to things I like. Because "good" or "bad" is technical. But "fun" and "enjoyable" are emotional response and individual. My emotional response to entertainment will be different than yours. It's subjective. All these words are misused often in entertainment conversations, but especially in review of them (I'm even guilty of that at times).

Anyway, why I bring it up is I believe RE:Village makes good on RE4. It does what RE4 wanted to do and more. It has spooky stuff in it (I don't find Village scary but its certainly a little creepy at the beginning of the game), and it has a lot of well done action. It does both fairly well. If I had a problem with that it would be that I would like it to mix the two slightly better as the game kind of lives on a slope and each individual part happens one at a time rather than all together. I found that to be strange, especially because I didn't find any of it to be all that scary. It even stopped being creepy the moment you leave the first area. For me anyway.

But anyway, it's a great game and Kudos to Capcom for letting it happen. I think both 7 and 8 are great games. I look forward to more which I haven't felt about a Resident Evil since 2.

E3 2010. I watched it live on Giantbomb.com.
EA guy (I forget his name now) said how they made that symbol with their hands (The Sims team at EA at the time I mean). It became a thing for those who were there for the last million years.

I have always felt myself pretty stupid. Up through my mid 20s I never could beat any game without a guide or walkthrough. Never.
Now that I am older I often can beat games without a walkthrough (even games I used to be confused by- it's super bizarre sometimes), but (and Vinny has talked about this somewhere before) once you feel like you have to use a walkthrough it's over. You cant keep playing anymore without it at that point. There's something about once you start doing it you don't stop for the rest of the game. At least that's how it is for me.
But that's with like puzzlers and adventure games. With platformers or mechanics driven games I tend to give up on those when they literally hurt my hands to continue playing and I no longer want to experience that or deal with how punishing the game may be even just in my brain.
With typical RPGs I give up on those when the story goes on too long and I become done with the game itself. Often this just happens and I don't even think about it and then I realize later I never went back to that one game I liked and I forget why I stopped playing it.

Ya, Derek has been doing it for years so technically if you want a best of for the site, start at #1 of his Best Of Giant Bomb series and work your way down.
They're good. You won't regret watching them.

@development: I hear you. I can empathize with what you're saying here.
I learned something a few years ago, as change/loss continues to happen in my life over and over and I get tired of the same old routines I'm doing for various reasons.
It is kind of like when you get stock you need to have a portfolio. Don't put all your eggs in one basket or whatever. There are a lot of great podcasts and communities which now-a-days bring me as much joy as I have experienced over the past 20+ years with the guys of Giant Bomb which used to be my sole source of content (I didn't even watch a lot of TV shows for around 10 years just to make time for everything Giant Bomb was doing at all times so I could always fit it into my schedule).

All I mean to say is: It's scary. I get it. You always find yourself alone in this world and Giant Bomb has been a constant. But there are other long standing communities out there and this is a good chance to find one that you can relate to just as much.

It's pretty crazy how many podcast there are now with relatable hosts and a wide swaths of content to help you get through the tough times.

Really this is also for others that feel that way as well. Giant Bomb doesn't have to be the only source of interest. These days there are tons of great communities and podcasts or even shows on the web somewhere with relatable people- sometimes people you wouldn't even expect. Just as an example: I used to really dislike Bobby Lee's comedy, but recently I found and started listening to his podcast. While I still have similar feelings about his comedy I respect him more as a person and I find myself vastly more interested in listening to his podcast because of it. And all he does is talks honestly for an hour or so with various comedians.
So just give stuff a chance and see what you like. There's stuff out there. Sometimes you find your limiting yourself by not giving stuff a chance.
This is meant to be uplifting and positive. Hopefully it reads that way :)

Hang in there. You're never alone.

Wow. This is the end of two decades of my life for sure. It was fun supporting the site while it lasted. It's always hard to accept sudden changes, but it is a part of life.
I kind of expected as everyone else was leaving (Abby and Ben in such quick succession), content had lessened more and more, and I stopped mostly watching/listening, that this was the beginning of the end for me. Coronavirus really did change everything.

Thank you all for the wonderful memories. I'll never forget the times we had together alone.

As a long time player of many many many MMOs (I have a list of the ones I own, and therefore have played, here on Giant Bomb plug plug) I no longer feel the draw to MMOs that I used to. They are boring and repetitive to me now more than ever and as someone who works full time I don't feel I have the time to "waste" that I used to. But it's not even totally that, honestly. I like "wasting" time, but I just don't feel MMOs are fun anymore. The whole design of an MMO is set to literally waste your time so you play it longer and I have just become so tired of that design ideology. The best one, thematically, is Knights of the Old Republic because it has so much story, dialogue and world building that it does better than ANY MMO on that front, but even in that you still end up questioning why it's an MMO and not KOTOR 3? Why does it feel so large and yet so barren? There are nagging problems for me in that game.
I have opinions on almost every single MMO ever. I've played most of them. I'll spare that. I'm just saying, for me personally MMOs are now just a nostalgic novelty. I go back to the ones that still exist (a large number of them have been shut down now- a few even have been changed to something else- sadly which could potentially be a part of the problem) but I always always stop playing after a day or two. I just can't bring myself to play something if it only feels like a grind and nothing else of value anymore.
Honestly it... really bums me out. I played a lot of MMOs for many many years. But, you know. Things change.
I only would recommend an MMO if you really have time and don't mind that you really won't be advancing or seeing anything interesting for a very long time. Unless maybe you play The Old Republic. Although that game is older now. But again- It doesn't feel like it should be an MMO.

Sorry I'm late to the party on this, but my two favorite shirts are Im a Wizard and Evil Luchadeer. I got them when they came out and now sadly they are getting old and tearing so I'm afraid to wear them as I don't want to lose them.

If you could add those two shirts I would buy another of both of those so I can retire the originals. The Giant Beast shirt is my third favorite. That one isn't as old, though. I'd buy another of that one, though, too just for the record.

The word you're looking for at the end is cathartic. Catatonic would leave you unable to even write this :)
