@fisk0: The Hobbit issues have more to do with Peter Jackson's inability to make good movies lately and saddling the movies with crappy "3D" technology.
The whole 30 fps thing being cinematic is idiotic. Film is locked at 24 fps only because people are used to it in movies. It is in fact worse than a movie at 60 fps for numerous reasons. Hopefully James Cameron can help us get beyond this silly limitation.
Well, yeah, it looks "cinematic" because it's what we're used to in cinema. Seems like a reasonable adjective.
Nope. "Cinematic" has a lot more variables than just frame rate. It's a cop-out. They need to just admit that they prioritize visual fidelity over frame rate and call it a day. Pretending like it looked bad at 60 fps so they had to turn it down to 30 is just idiotic. Do they think most consumers are dumb enough to buy that line? They're probably right.
