I'm surprised that @jeff's machine handled vr so bad as he described it.

Contrary to what @brad was saying, there isn't some massive leap in performance on the newer generation of CPU's compared to the 2500k, at least not in terms of brute force computation.
Half of the advantage is due to the increased clock speeds, and if Jeff is running the 2500k at 4.2 GHz, that part is nullified.

The new skylakes do perform significantly better at certain tasks tho, like dolphin emulation.

but in general, we're only looking at about 30% boost in performance, core for core, clock for clock.
It'll be really interesting to hear from other folks in the community that have 2500k's.
One potential reason might be a messed up OC, or perhaps @jeff's adventures on the fast ring of windows builds.
Or perhaps, that particular game needed more than 4 cores, regardless of how fast they are.

Another thought i had was USB3, If @jeff is still using the P8P67 PRO from his tested build.
He does not actually have any native USB 3's, the ones he have might not be fast enough, drivers for that might also be something to look into.

If anyone is looking to upgrade, nothing new is coming on the cpu front for a while now.

Skylake came august last year, and that's what you want.

Cannonlake is supposedly delayed until mid 2017, and the new midstep kaby lake is roumored to be later this year, it is mostly a process shrink of skylake, and should be compatible with current socket 1151 motherboards, in otherwords, nothing groundbreaking, skylake is still the good get.

AMD Zen might come at the end of the year, and no one really knows how that'll perform, so that s a tough wait.

so, get skylake, if you're building a computer sometime this year, pretty much.

Graphics cards

Both AMD and Nvidia have new graphics cards on a new manufacturing process, which is the first time since 2011. ( yes, we've been on 28 nm that long )

The graphics cards are rumored to be landing anywhere from april to Q4, If you have a decent graphics card today, don't buy anything until at least one of these series are released.

sidenote : The energy efficiency and power that these will bring might be what is making Playstation 4.5 and XBONE:SE possible.

They're using a fire sound usually used with desert eagles in movies and games, for a FN five seven, and they also call it a heavy pistol.

Just made me react, thats all.
