I jump back in here from time to time to see what's going on but I've definitely stopped blogging as much as I used to. I haven't noticed any loss of features or anything and it's mostly just a time thing for me. I find it's a lot easier and faster to pop into discord or twitter for more immediate conversations and I don't think the dumb stuff I think about or post about over there is worth starting an entirely new thread here. The forum format lends itself better to larger conversations or lasting thoughts which is just something I don't have the time for lately. The weekly Community Spotlight usually gives me my fix of what's going on over here and fwiw, it's still one of the only forums on the web that isn't just a toxic mess of people shouting =]

Guest lists had a pretty significant impact last year and I think if they number as high as they did then, they'll probably bring a ton of points for games that may be a bit under the radar. I don't think too many people took advantage of the round actions last year neither so I'm gonna make them a little more significant this time around. Hopefully it'll give a bit more of an edge to people who're participating =]

Current game scores are based on how many people have included the game in their list and the position that game is on their lists. This will of course be wiped once the GotY content starts but it's a good easy way to have a dynamic scoring system until then =D

What is this?

We did one last year ( link to last year's league ) and it was pretty fun so I thought it might be fun to do a fantasy draft again for the upcoming Giant Bomb 2019 GotY awards. Please read to the bottom of this post before posting or you will be disqualified! Any submissions that are not in the correct format will be ignored.

How to Play

Reply to this thread with your ORDERED LIST of top 5 games and 3 additional tie-breaker games.

Example

Interaction During GotY

There will be an interactive element during the daily release of the awards. You'll need to pay attention to this space to make sure you maximize your chances! I will be announcing time/dates of interactions on discord and twitter

Scoring

Every game's point total will be calculated based on the following criteria:

Site List

Staff List

Positive Categories

Negative Categories

A single game can only win once within a single category.

Guest Lists

Due to the non-structured nature of guest lists, each game on their list will be afforded 30 points. This excludes any and all games that are off their main list and listed as something along the lines of "honorable mentions".

The point total for each game will then be modified based on what slot you put it in as follows:

So for example, if a game got 100 points total and was in your 1 spot, you'd get the full 100 points while if it were in your number 5 spot you'd get 20 points.

In the event of a tie, the three tie breaker games will be used to determine the winner. with the scale of 100%, 75%, 50% for 6th, 7th, and 8th. If there is STILL a tie, whomever first posted their picks will be the winner. If you notice you have identical picks with someone else who is before you, you can DM me and change your picks ONE TIME. So make certain whatever changes you make don't make you identical to anyone else. This can only be done before the deadline and also be sure to make those changes to your post here so your edit time reflects when this change was made.

All scoring rules can be changed but I'll refrain from doing so unless there's a really good argument for it.

Checking Scores

I've created a shared document (view only) that lists everyone's picks and their current standings. As the GotY lists haven't started posting yet the scores are placeholders but you should get a good idea of how it will work. I will update the "Games" sheet as the site is updated and you should be able to check how you're doing pretty easily.

I found a solid PS4 model online so I whipped up a few renders of what I think a Giant Bomb themed PS4 Pro might look like.

It'd be pretty cool if in the future, you could pick colors for your consoles in the way you kinda can for controllers.
