@homelessbird: lots of mods to help things, you can also try the Long War 2 mod that changes things up quite a bit. Also they have an expansion (with a nemesis-like system) coming out August 29th.

Haven't watched this yet, but just a quick question: Is X-com 2 worth buying on ps4? Keep in mind I loved the fuck out of the previous one.

Can only speak for the PC version. It's cool in many ways. Way more customization options. Enemy and map variety is better. Story setting, strategy layer, and play style are a lot different. Because you canonically lose in XCOM1, in 2 you are always on the run, trying to be more stealth/ambush-based, on a few countdown timers on constantly a threat. Some people may not like the changes.

I quite liked it because my super soldiers felt much more distinct after some leveling up. But the timer makes it impossible to play endlessly without mods.

Haven't played, but is there still only 1 emote slot? That's insane for a game with Destiny's ambitions.

Buying basic emotes like clapping, crying or cheering (sure paid dancing emotes I can understand) and only restricted to 1 at a time really limited player interactions in the first game. Upon hearing the emotes not carrying over, I had hopes that bungie would revamp that system.

@ravelle: it's called bad retconning. I have no idea why they decided to do this 180 on his persona only to not really justify it. Yakuza 0 Majima and the Majima from the rest of the series are for all intents and purposes two completely different characters.

Not really though. They had already built toward it in both 4 and 5 where they showed Majima being more serious not keeping up the act all the time. His personality on both of those games is not that far of Majima in this game.

I would disagree. Throughout Yakuza 0, up to the very end Majima is this levelheaded guy with a heart of gold - he's basically Kiryu from the later games while they made Kiryu in this one more of a square dope. Then at the very last moment he has a very rational revelation and says "hey I'm gonna be crazy now" and thats his origin story. It literally is Majima just deciding suddenly to be the crazy guy at the very end of the game.

I'm a fan of the games, although I never got around to playing Yakuza 5, but this wasn't earned, not by a long shot.

Don`t get me wrong. It`s by no means perfect, but considering what they had to work with I think they did a really good job.

I don`t think Majima in this game is like Kiryu in the others. Kiryu is a straight laced saint whereas Majima in this is more of a rogue with a heart of gold. They also established in 4 and 5 that the Mad dog thing was an act and I think they did a good job of showing the reasons and thought process that lead Majima to decide to put on the act. He sees Nishitani just having a ton of fun and living the good life as he continues to get played and fucked over by everyone he works with. The mad dog is an act he puts on as an attempt at a defence against getting hurt and to keep people guessing, so that no one can use him.

One interesting thing is that Majima realizes he was played by Shimano this whole time (leading to the letting punks punch him scene), and at the end really by Sera as well. A transition towards being more unpredictable, while copying various character traits of others, makes sense in those context.

Great game, front runner for best story, maybe makoto for new character, and car/helicopter chase scene for best moment?

Great job for the whole East crew as well.

One thing I still don't get is why both Kiryu and Majima went back into the yakuza. Shouldn't the events in 0 make that life less appealing? Both were basically out to begin with.

@odinsmana: I'm a long time fan of the series, and have played the previous entries before 0, and although 5 did downplayed his craziness a bit, i was still expecting something to "break" Majima. The moment Makoto got shot, i thought he would murder all three lieutenants.

Was disappointed when he didn't even killed the hitman, and even had a bro moment with Awano, a total scumbag.

He never really broke though. It`s more that he decided to put on the Mad Dog act. As we see with his scenes with Seajima in 4 or his scenes in 5 he can put that part of him aside when he feels like it or when he needs to (as he does when he gets more and more responsibility as the series goes on). So the "breaking point" is more what happened in this episode where he decided to play the part of the Mad Dog.

In previous games I am pretty sure it`s at the very least hinted at, but I think outright stated that Majima has never killed anyone. So he couldn`t really kill the hitman either way.

Also I think there are ways to make the Awano redemption work better, but I won`t get into that. His scene with Majima can make sense in the context that Majima does not know him and how big of a dick he is, so it`s easier for him to forgive Awano.

Is anyone else worried that the epilogue to this game may spoil future games for the GBE crew?

As others have mentioned it`s the first 30 minutes of that game and it`s fairly vague and is also shown way more explicitly in every trailer for Kiwami, so unless they avoid all media of that game it will be spoiled for them either way.

Never played the other games, but saw the Kiwami trailers. I read some online discussion on Majima's character change, most people seemed disappointed. However I agree with you, assuming Majima never really "broke" but was merely putting on an act, the revelation in this episode is significant (This is, of course, without knowing what else happens in this prequel). The interpretation can be that Majima decided to act crazy in order to be unpredictable, so that he will never be played like this again in the future. And as people have pointed out, Majima is taking elements of characters he met in this prequel as "inspirations".

The story is so good, but the weekly wait is killing me!

Having no knowledge of future games, I'm really curious how the writing ties the main characters back into the yakuza. At this point in the story, both feel so done with that life.
