They could have done fucking Skyrim with Vinny, Jeff, AND Dave, and it still wold have felt like they were trying too hard. I'm loving the ER so far, don't get me wrong, but it literally can't be as good as the original, because it came at the perfect time, with the perfect game, and with a perfectly sized community.

Same here. In fact, that's kinda the best part of the Endurance Run: their personalities. They kinda know how to carry the game and have fun with it and what to say and blah blah blah. My main problem is when they suck at the game. I haven't played this game in a while, either, so I don't like it when I find myself yelling at the monitor "I COULD DO THIS BETTER THAN YOU." (Gameplay-wise, of course; in terms of commentary, I'm clearly outclassed.) Again, it's not like they have many excuses; Patrick has played the game and proven himself knowledgable about it, so why the mistakes? It's not even like the game's unclear about this; it's pretty good about telling you exactly how you fucked up and what you could do in a future playthrough to avoid the hell out of that. (All that in mind, let me say that episode 2 was better because of how little room there was for this raging.)

There are plenty of people out there with their YouTube accounts doing something similar to Giant Bomb's endurance run, but there is a huge difference: GB's staff does way better commentary (and have better sound equipment) than the others out there. Though I have played Chrono Trigger before, and I know there other similar videos of games I rather watch being played, I am hear to listen to Ryan and Patrick goof up. Plus, Patrick is a cool guy, so give him a break.

What's up with all the "Listen to the fans" stuff? Ofc they listen but they obviously can't please every single one, this is not just internet rules as many people like to put it, it's how the world works - people are different. Isn't it clear by now that they make whatever ER they want whenever the fuck they want? Doing one because they feel "pushed" would just be dumb.

Now two guys obviously wanted to play Chrono Trigger and figured they might as well make an Endurance Run while they're at it, and that's all there is to it, that's all there ever needs to be (no 'DEY MUST MEAK FUN OF VOICE OVER OR IZZNAT REEL ER'). Ask yourself, would you want to watch videos of two people forcing their way through a long game being bored to shit and at the same time using up loads of time/resources that could be spent on other stuff?

Let's keep the ER a spontaneous fun little bonus feature and not force it, it would just turn old and boring.

I tried watching Ep1 but I feel the game is a terrible choice for an ER in all honesty. I like ER's because they are essentially long quicklooks of games I find entertaining and interesting in of themselves. I might never want to play the games shown but I can certainly enjoy watching videos of them being played. Chrono Trigger is so old that 90% of the game is looking at very low detail sprites and reading text and I get that people have nostalgia hardons for it (never played it myself) but it's just so... meh to me. I can't go back to games like that anymore. The oldest rpg I still enjoy returning to is Septerra Core, and that came out in 99 and was fully voiced and had tremendous detail, art direction, production, personality, querkiness all the good stuff an ER needs. It would make for a fantastic ER since its super obscure and almost no one has played it yet retains its entertainment value in spades despite the dated sprite based presentation. It's also very long and has a connection to Bungie's history. But anyway yeah, not feeling this ER.

I'm telling you, they're trolling. They want to make us hate ERs as much as they do so they never have to do it again.

"Everyone" was demanding a new Endurance Run. Jeff and Vinny flat out didn't want to do another one, as they have said many times, and the community throws a collective conniption fit any time Brad touches a controller. No, I'm not going to watch the whole ER and complain the whole way. In fact, the only thing I've been motivated to respond to at this point are posts like yours, or other people bitching about other people bitching. You act like this wasn't the fan reaction when giant bomb decided to play through one of the most linear JRPG's in recent memory and one of the mechanically poorest but most insane 3rd person shooters in recent memory. It's always like this dude, the first episodes are always drummed up by "WHY ARE THEY PLAYING THIS?? THIS WON'T BE FUNNY! I'VE ALREADY SET MY MIND ABOUT THIS THING!!" and then once it picks up steam, people herald it as the greatest thing ever. Every time, without fail. I mean hell, if they reacted to this sort of inflated response, they never would have hired Patrick, they never would have done TNT, they never would have tried to start Tested or Screened, they wouldn't have Alex still writing for the site, they wouldn't be doing much else other than quicklooks and game reviews.

Somehow, I get the impression that doing only what makes their fans happy isn't really what these guys are about.

This all harkens back to what happened when Catherine was announced and everyone expected GB to do an endurance run of that. They clearly said, "No. We already did something like that. And because of that, we'll probably never do something like that again." THAT is what people should be expecting from endurance runs. SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT EVERY TIME. Hell, at this point, I'm convinced most people just want them to do a Skyrim ER because it's fresh in their minds.

And talk about unreasonable, everyone wants Jeff and Vinny to do everything on this damn site, forgetting that they're incredibly busy in their jobs. Jeff has been away almost the entire month on assignment, I'm sure back when this was being filmed in october, Vinny was up to his eyeballs in harddrives trying to get video footage of multiple MARATHONED LIVE EVENTS ready for publication. You know what's unreasonable? EXPECTING THE SAME PEOPLE TO DO EVERYTHING AT THE SITE! Patrick and Ryan have been doing a great job with this ER so far, but most people don't seem to realize that because they can't get over the SNES visuals. I honestly don't know why people are complaining about the content, Chrono Trigger gets so crazy later on in the game and I really do trust those two to provide a pretty funny commentary on it.

One time, my friend and I went to walmart to pick up some supplies for a party and we stopped in the video game section to look at a few new releases. There were two kids their with their mother and they were discussing what version of pokemon to get. The first kid wanted pokemon yellow. The second kid also wanted pokemon yellow, but since his brother was getting yellow, he had to get another color. He, quite literally, dropped to the floor and started kicking the aisles, screaming that he wanted pokemon yellow. Not blue, not red, not the games that are EXACTLY THE SAME, he wanted yellow, and he was going act a damn fool until he got it. The mother eventually caved and the two brothers both walked away with pokemon yellow, not knowing that if one had gotten yellow and one had gotten another color, they would have had a more enjoyable experience with both games.

THAT'S what this is like. People are flopping around in the aisle kicking everything demanding they get another P4 endurance run or another DP endurance run because they don't know what to expect from something different.

Yes, I am. Patrick seems like he's still in high school, so he could probably write an essay on it and properly cite his sources. I wanna see a Works Cited at the end of each video. (Actually, the commentary problem has more than been taken care of. Now, it's about actually being good at the game. It's like the exact opposite of my Tail Concerto Let's Play (notice the absence of a link).)

It's not the game that's the problem for me but I don't expect them to change everything for me so I will choose to not watch it.

I'm having a great time with the ER so far. For me, it's not about watching a playthrough of Chrono Trigger, I could watch one of the thousands and thousands of Let's Plays on YouTube. I could care less about Persona 4 (which looked like a dreadful game from the ER). I watch it for the people and I've never understood all the Patrick hate since he joined (just people fearing change I think). I watch it for the personalities hosting it, not the game itself.

That said, I'm glad they are doing it.

No, they're only the most vocal. Hell, one trip to the Endurance run's comment section is all you need to see where listening to your fans will get you. The general consensus to that mess is, "I don't like this, I wish it was different, I want something else, but I will sit here and watch all of this just because."

Don't listen to your fans and do what you want to do. They're your fans because you were doing that in the first place.

@Video_Game_King: Everyone falls for that trap, unless they cheat and already know about it before hand....I remember when I was a kid I fell for every single trap in the sewers....but I just can't see them getting past some of the tougher bosses unless they grind levels (Magus being the first real test as you actually have to think about what you are doing and he's the first boss who can give an under leveled party problems)

Yeah, that's not true at all. It wasn't the BLLSL it was announced; it was confirmed they'd be doing a new ER at PAX and they said it was Chrono Trigger during the 24-hour live Tested podcast. Now, I happened to be in the chat when this was announced and the comments were certainly not approving of the game choice.

Chrono Trigger is a good game to endurance run because despite what a lot of people claim, there are a ton of people who to this day have not played it and probably would never play it. This endurance run gives those people a chance to not only experience a great game but to hear the funny commentary aswell.

Shadow Hearts: Covenant would be awesome for the next ER. For now, LONG LIVE BRONO! I'm loving this one so far, even if Ryan and Patrick need to pay a little more attention to instructions. Just, for the love of god, stay out of Guardia Forest!

Most complaints I recall from the Persona 4 ER were people complaining about how Jeff and Vinny were "playing it wrong" while for this ER, most complaints aren't about the players' ability. Am I wrong?

I dunno, they seemed to play Persona 4 just fine. A few missteps, but they got the perfect ending. I'm not so sure in this case, but I really don't care what ending they get.

I think at this point that if you're familiar with GB you should be aware that all of that behavior is commonplace. Skipping tutorials and then bitching about the game not communicating well is a staple of the site!

Main thing I'll miss is the Brad meme pictures that came out of DR.
