Pro Tip: There are 3 ways to bring back a dead fighter.

1. Death Metal lets you revive on the spot

2. Go to the freezer and pay Uncle Death some kill coins and he'll go out and bring your dead fighter back with all of their stuff intact, without the currency or xp they found

3. Go to where you died and kill your own hater. You don't get the items you had but you can get the fighter back so you don't have to level up a new one.

I'm pretty sure you at least get the coins back from a character you salvage, you may even get the xp but i'm bit more hazy on that.

@shagge: Same here. This game gets shitty once you get to Grade 2. The Haters throughout the entire game level up to your highest grade. So you have a Grade 1 guy, you level up to Grade 2--now you need to start a new Grade 2 guy, while you're dealing with level 50 Haters armed with guns and fast melee weapons on every floor. It feels like they went "OK, you're probably hooked when you're at Grade 2, so we can start twisting the knife to get you to buy Death Metals."

I found it kind of abusive and I stopped playing.

I dont blame you, the whole tier system is shitty, if it doesnt even match you with people of a similar level then whats the point. It just feels like a way to make you grind whenever you make progress.

That being said i'm huge fan of these kind of games and i'm loving the style so i'm forcing myself to ignore /put up with some bs in the hopes that the other big bosses are as cool as the first.

So is there a forum thread or easily readable guide for this? Cause hoooo boy am I lost checking this out. It seems neat but unpacking these systems in the tutorial menus is rough.

I can really relate to this feeling. Every time I get ready for competitive online play of any kind my guy just starts going upside down.

For me, it's meant an attraction to co-op multiplayer when I don't have to worry about losing to another person. Somehow the disappointment of losing to the computer means we all lost together.

Overwatch manages to do this for me since teams actually need each other even though we're playing other humans. The other key component is never turning on a chat feed ever. EVER.

So after playing this I found that you can build a 2nd floor and remove all the support and it will just float in the sky. After that I just built floating walkways to avoid enemies, which is something I also did in Fallout 4.

Is this is a thing in all builders? Never played Minecraft so I'm curious if people all build crazy sky castle filing cabinets.

It is actually pretty rare to have a crafting/building type game like this where actual laws of gravity work like intended. I'm actually have a hard time thinking of even one. Floating stuff is pretty common in Minecraft.

@gaftra: Pretty much why Minecraft and its clones are fundamentally flawed in that way.

Hunh, okay. I did think this was fun but just seemed a bit weird. It really broke the illusion for me in Fallout. I just had floating turrets all over the sky surrounding a borg cube generator that was pretty much impregnable.

This game is a little lighter/sillier so probably will give it a whirl. Does seem like that lack of physics breaks some gameplay though. I killed the dragon by digging a hole underneath him and jump slashing ;p

Where does Mortal Kombat fall on this list?

My understanding of MK is that it's own silo. It's not really played a great deal outside of the states so it has it's very die hard but smaller pool of players.

Smash is always the weirdest to me since I've always felt like some friends bolted on a fighting game set of rules to a party game to get more life out of it. Obviously it's grown beyond that but man, I always struggle to get my head around it.

Wonderful article! It's really fascinating how this process works for each individual game. I'm sure we've all had some anecdotal evidence of this.

I personally just got done with season 2 qualifying matched and all 10 were clean sweeps where I went 5-5.

What about Bernie Sanders supporters? I'm not american and I don't follow the elections that closely (and I don't want to turn it into a political discussion). Are they too naive? Too holier-than-thou? Too antiestablishment? Too PC?

For me, and this is just anecdotally, the Bernie supporters of my friends and extended circle of acquaintances are insufferable. There is an obnoxious condescending tone that gave rise to the nickname Bernie Bro.

Keep in mind this is just talking about the most annoying subset of a particular group.
