I'll stuff myself into a locker after this comment but Horus Heresy is Warhammer 30K. It's the premise that sets up the Warhammer universe 10,000 years later.

If you're reading any of the fiction check out Dan Abnett books. He is a cut above the other authors and genre fiction in general. Gaunts Ghosts and the Eisenhorn series are some of his best.

Reminds me of how I like to play the first Max Payne. I'd quick save right before a big room of enemies to figure out like how to kill each guy with a perfectly aimed shot. It'd take a dozen tries to figure out but was so fun to execute.

Turning the shooter genre into a puzzle game is so cool. Can't wait to try this.

Didn't the Double Fine guys also had the stop-motion idea way before this game? Weird hearing them talk about it as if Ace Team came up with it first.

Yeah, Double Fine already did the stop motion idea with Brazen.

I still play the Brazen prototype regularly. It's a damn crime that never got turned into a full game. Beerzerker for life.

That game had a lot of potential. I will say the character models in Tower actually look better than in Brazen. They lean into a plastic or quality that makes them seem less like polygons and more like models which is something Brazen really lacked.

If you think the Wild format might be more popular you have another thing coming.

The format will be mostly devoid of players in a year or two. All of the tournaments are moving to Standard. The same is true for every other card game that has existed. At some point there aren't enough people interested in acquiring all the old cards, and with no tournaments and little developer support, the format dies. It might live on for a while, but sooner or later it will be dead. (Very probably sooner).

I expect the reddit complaint posts about how long a game of Wild takes to find will be posted within the year.

@rayeth I think the tricky part there is that digital or not, people are still paying money to get cards. Were Blizzard to fully remove or continually nerf things out of existence, so to speak, people would be pretty angry, probably only leaving the insane diehards playing the game. It's a much softer blow to make it so that even if the cards people spent hundreds of dollars on won't be usable in the main segment of the game, at least they can be used in an secondary mode of the game that might end up being more popular anyway.

I am going to call the complete opposite. The majority doesn't play in tournaments and just wants to have a bunch of fun. That means as much stuff as possible even if it is a bit rng based. I see "standard" mode dying a lot faster then Wild format.

I think you're ignoring how print card games have arched in regards to an extended and tournament rulesets. What standard does is keeps an everygreen group of cards that anyone can look at and have an easier understanding about the barrier to entry.

Almost every other card game has to do this to remain relevant because without it you can't onboard new players. This actually creates a manageable and sustainable style of play that is friendly to casual and hardcore players.

Wild is going to be haven for totally bonkers decks because as a designer you aren't worried about unintended combos or a meta.

Maybe put Hearthstone in this article title? Was kinda confused what you were referring to at first.

This also makes a ton of sense if you want to make an ongoing card game. This is what has allowed Magic to be sustainable as a business model.

I know @austin_walker will appreciate that I had to quit Netrunner because they wouldn't put something like this in effect.

I was exactly the same way, first time I got that weird thumb joint callous.

Deadly Moves was, no joke, a multiple renter for me. Fighting game hysteria was just beginning, and I guess I couldn't get enough. I did like the idea of gaining stats for fighting. but yeah, that basically compensates for a crappy game. The tunes were rocking, at least, on the Genesis version.

@hassun: I thought laser turrets were always in mechwarrior games? Really all I care about is being able to map every gun to one key.
