GOTY 2012

What I feel is the best I have played this year.

List items

  • This made me cry. Usually that is something only a small handful of movies have done, and maybe two books. When something can make me cry, it is stamped with a "Seal of approval" right away. And boy, does this deserve it. Haunting story, best characters in a video game to date, great score and graphics. Easily my GotY 2012.

  • As I write this I have yet to beat Far Cry 3, but the amount of fun I have already had puts it firmly on this list. The story does seem to go a bit off the rails, but for now it does so in a way I can actually get behind. That might change during the last quarter of the game of course.

  • Brutal and sickening. If you want to feel like a badass for sixty seconds, followed by feeling like the biggest asshole in the whole world, you need to play this. The fast paced killing of dozens of men, with some of the best soundtrack of this year blaring in the background, mean that you don't really notice all the carnage you have created until you finish the level. You see, that is when they turn the music off. That is when you have to walk back, through all the death you have caused. It is brilliant.

  • Another game that a lot of fans hate now. Which baffles me, as it is a great game. I still play it regularly, with my brothers, and have a lot of fun with it. The way it did the skill system was brilliant in my opinion, making the game a lot more enjoyable. The story was decent and the classes are fun. Most likely the only game on the list I will still play years from now.

  • Seemingly a cutesy platformer with a twist, this turned out to be kind of an obsession. When the hidden layer of mindfuckery slowly reveals itself, I fully expected to not be able to solve any of it. I did though, and largely without help, which made me feel awesome. The only game on the list that had me use several pages of my notebook, scribbling down what must look like "serial killer gibberish"

  • Excellent stealth, fun combat (when you fuck up the stealth) and an interesting story. The kind of game you want to beat twice, once without killing anyone and once where you go crazy.

  • God, I love this game! So damn over the top, in your face, angry, CRUSH, DIE! Has the highest quota of "WHAT THE SHIT!" of the year. The only negative things I have to say about it is that the combat can be on the boring side, and you do kinda need the DLC to make sense of things. Or... as much sense as possible I guess.

  • I am a huge Hitman fan, so I had to have this game. A lot of other fans hate it because it does things differently. Well, sure. It isn't as good as the previous ones if you want one of the previous ones. But I like the fresh take on it, the more personal story. I enjoyed it a lot, and will surely play more to get better scores and unlock more stuff. I do hope they make the next one a bit more like the "classic" games though.

  • I loved this. Do you want to feel like a badass with two tentacles growing out of your shoulders? Look no further! I also like the story, even though it is a bit hokey in spots. A game I am looking forward to replay some time in the future.

  • Flawed in several ways, but still pretty damn awesome. The loot is more or less useless eventually, but the gameplay, the vistas and the story (to a certain degree) is still interesting enough for this to just make it on my list.
