@rox360: Cheers for that post, you basically answered all my unasked questions about this release.

It's crazy they didn't take dedimania's cross server track records concept, but the way track tags are surfaced on the server browser seems cool. I'll probably give this one a little bit to see if it dies on the vine.

Yeah, I basically thought the same after the QL, OP.

The default sexualisation of female characters is definitely a thing, and boob armour is the perfect manifestation of that, but I don't think that's what's going on with this character design. Knee-jerk condemnation of anything that looks like it could be offensive without taking any time to figure out if there's actually a problem is counterproductive and, yeah, a little childish.

I suppose the idea of using "sexiness" to obfuscate the humans makes sense... Until it becomes obvious that the aliens are sending these soldiers into BATTLE with an outfit like they're auditioning for Miss Alien Universe. I don't think the "take a look at these, my man" approach will work too well on a hardened soldier filled with hate over the death of countless comrades. Between this and legit battle armor that looks like it could at least take a shot from a paintball, I'll take the armor; y'know, if I'm going to WAR. But you never know. Maybe everyone is easy in this alien-oppressed future. Will there be a "seduction" mechanic in this game? Honestly, that's what it would take to justify this to me.

In this interpretation the design of the armour isn't for XCOM soldiers, it's for the general populace. They're maybe going for something scary but also awe inspiring and not quite hitting it? I dunno. And it's alien armour with, like, special technology that means it really strong or something...

There are perhaps legit problems with some specifics of how valve are doing this, but it seems like most people on the internet (not in this thread - which is lovely) are freaking out over the very idea of paying for a thing. It's giant entitled baby syndrome again.

The combat's pretty fun and the maps are well designed. It's very fast. Hopefully the FTP stuff doesn't fuck it up. you get like 8 mercs out of the box which is decent.

I think the core thing is that women are portrayed in games in a limited number of ways because the audience (at least the imagined audience) and/or the game makers have a limited view about what women can and can't be or do. I sort of agree with a lot of this article (and disagree with lots of bits) but it just discusses a few of the ways in which the acceptable roles/portrayals for women are constrained.

There's lots of reasons why people will get angry in a Dota match but none of them excuse being a dick. Mostly it's just people wanting to make it absolutely clear (to themselves and everyone else) that the loss is not their fault. Raging at your team is absolutely pathetic and counter productive.

Hey can we, the Giant Bomb community stop calling the requirement for online multiplayer in Sim City "DRM"? It's not DRM. It serves a DRM purpose, but it's an online multiplayer game, and no one cares if you choose not to play it that way.

EA realised online games with DRM don't annoy people so much so they mandated that all their games will be online. SimCity has multiplayer to excuse the DRM, the DRM isn't a side-effect of multiplayer.

I guess multiplayer games have more opportunities for DLC too.

Why 16-bit graphics? This game's got a great visual style, why remake it low-fi?

Goddamn, the boss of 2K is apparently hell of dumb. Photorealism is required to create emotional connections? Has he looked at any none photographic/filmic art ever?

What makes you so sure that Brad did this quest and found this same problem? Also, how long do think the review should be? Cus listing every single minor thing that happened in 50 hours would be a pretty long, boring and unhelpful review.
