@emphulio: Considering there's already a main character in Persona 5 named Goro, naming the protagonist after Majima probably wouldn't be the best idea, haha.
I always just name the protagonist using my own name in my first playthrough; I'll usually use whatever's closest to a canonical name for a second playthrough (in this case, I think he goes by Akira Kurusu in the manga). So I'll use that!
@tothenines: Nah, you're right. I guess I was saying that more in regards to the people who continuously pestered Jeff, personally, on Tumblr and the like over the years, which he even said soured him on the whole thing at some point (and I can totally understand why). Discussion on the site/forums as a response to site output is totally fine, but that stuff in particular always irked me.
The work environment for GB is so different today than it was years and years ago when they did the Persona 4 Endurance Run, before the acquisition and everything. They even said it during the Quick Look; they straight up had to work around a meeting just to do the recording. It just doesn't seem like a feasible thing at this point. Apart from that, though it seems like they liked what they saw during the Quick Look, they (especially Jeff) have made it pretty clear they had no interest in doing it for a while, and that's important; like everyone else, I absolutely love the idea of them doing it, but if they felt an obligation rather than a genuine desire to go through with it, it would maybe be the most miserable thing to watch. The best content on the site comes from situations where they decide to do something usually unprompted.
TLDR: At some point, people just gotta let it go. Constantly bothering them to do it was never the right approach, and it wouldn't have changed their decision, really. I hope people stop begging them, especially after today.
It seems like a really, really, really refined and polished take on the formula set by Persona 3 and 4 based on what I've heard, so I am damn excited to jump in when I have time.
Looks like there's a decent chance it'll maintain a 90+ average on Metacritic even as more reviews come in. That's rad.
@wumbo3000: I thought those thumbnails were pulled from the API or something, though.
(Whether it's a thumbnail made to mess with people ahead of time, forcing them to dig through the API to find it and get their hopes up since the thumbnail isn't "public," or it's an actual thing, this is all hilarious.)
@zeik: Ultimately, as is the case with any kind of coverage on the site, the extensiveness of coverage will come down to how genuinely interested any of them are in actually playing it past the introductory segments (which, for these games, is about 6-7 hours). Guess we'll have to wait and see!
I'm not sure which coast is doing the Quick Look (I assume West, since Jeff's apparently had the game since February), but I do remember Alex talking about having pre-ordered the game a while back on the Beastcast, so I'd love to see some East coast coverage/discussion of the game as well if the Quick Look's all we get from the West.
I've got it pre-ordered but won't be able to actually play it until the end of the semester in early May, about a month after release. When I do actually get to play it, it'll be the thing that definitively takes up all of my time, but I'll also be able to go at my own pace due to having so much free time in the summer, so that won't be a problem.
Getting engrossed in a game like this means I probably won't leave the house for a while once it gets its hooks in me.
