I just wanted to add that whenever most people talk about Control's combat and bosses I feel like I played a different game. It didn't give me any trouble at all. One boss was really tough because you had to keep track of multiple things and all of them hit really hard but everything else just required you to keep moving, shooting and using powers. Granted another boss did suffer from having a bad checkpoint but the fight itself wasn't hard if you learned what you needed to do.
The mods were really boring but they could get extremely overpowered, so you just needed to engage with that aspect and you could become nigh-unstoppable. Like the gauntlet at the end of the game they talked about, I completely stomped those fools without even coming close to danger. Your powers are boosted during that segment and you could kill everything effortlessly.
Not a huge fan of the new format, to be honest. I think it's better to just take all the games in everyone's top ten lists and talk about each and every one of those instead of going through every release this year. The majority of the discussions are barely long enough for someone to go to the bathroom and it's usually just one or two people saying a few things while everyone else doses off.
I rather have quality than quantity and if no one has anything worth discussing about a game then why bother? It's like the equivalent of reading a tweet and that, at least, doesn't have a massive expense attached to it.
I couldn't get in to The Outer Wilds but at least the conversation and enthusiasm for it was really fun and I enjoyed listening to everyone talk about it. I rather have two hours of a handful of games discussed like that instead of two hours of two minute segments per game of "Well, it was Okay, I guess. It's a video game. I didn't play much of it but I'm sure someone likes it."
It always feels like I played a different game when people complain about Control's combat. Only one encounter gave me trouble in that game and when I started making better use of my abilities I completely smoked the boss. Nothing else remotely came close to giving me trouble. The only criticism I can get behind is that enemy variety is pretty lacking and it doesn't force you to change up your rhythm or the kind of weapon you're using.
Still, it's the best combat Remedy has done to date.
My friend came into RDO when the update hit and she got about 35 gold with a few days of play. Then from that she got her gold back within a few hours because the Outlaw Pass exp goes by silly fast. She's sitting on 100 gold after a couple weeks of casual play with me.
Gold is given out like candy in RDO. It's not much of a grind as most of the dailies give gold and are really easy to do. You just do a few of those a day and before you know it you get half a gold for just doing one (because of the weekly streak bonuses) and you'll be swimming in that fun gold! I have 400 gold stored up from just doing dailies and bringing in bounties.
Watching this gives me an uncontrollable urge to boot up Skate 2. That game is one of my all-time favorites and I didn't think it would be when I first tried it out.
Love the FFXIV love in this episode. Game's hella good and while it is a time-sink I think it's probably the best MMO out there right now and probably the best Final Fantasy game Square has made. It's so damn good despite having a rocky start.
The whole video game violence shit is just a smokescreen. It's worth asking questions about and challenging games that do indulge in shitty, racist politics, glorifying the military, othering non-whites, ect. because they don't exist in a vacuum and can reinforce or effect someone's worldview but there are far bigger and more important issues that should be discussed and dismantled. The US was built on white supremacy and the trash who commit these heinous acts of terrorism all have the same generic manifesto where they believe their way of life is under attack by non-whites and believe themselves defending it. The media and ruling elite don't want to address this shit because it will rob them a convenient shield against those who want equal rights.
I mean, just look at the response to Ilhan Omar and AOC getting into office and saying anything. It's wretched.
Abby's problem with the Wolfenstein co-op was definitely weird. A friend and I joined up from the get-go and saw those opening cutscenes together. May have been a bug on her end? Either way, that's a really bad first impression for sure.
