Just want to say I enjoy your write-ups despite never playing through a mainline Final Fantasy. The only ones I spent much time with were the Dissidia spinoffs. Speaking of...

"What's the next Final Fantasy game I look at extensively? Only time will tell."

How about a Dissidia retrospective? :)

My predictions, based on nothing:

Switch 2 is coming early next year. Mostly a power upgrade, maybe a small new gimmick like 4K buttons, fully backward compatible.

June direct will mostly announce remasters like Zelda WW/TP, Metroid Prime 2/3, but there will be 2 or 3 new games coming to Switch. One will be a holiday release of a new Mario Party or Mario sports game (probably baseball), and the other will be Metroid Prime 4. MP4 will be a cross generation release, both versions launch same day as Switch 2. They might have one more small unexpected thing that comes out in October, but it will be small and Snipper Clips-like.

We will learn very little about the Switch 2 until January.

A lot of questionable decisions here, but GI Joe might take the cake for me. When was the last time any media based on that IP has done well? They couldn't even get people to watch a movie with Bruce Willis and The Rock. They have so many other franchises to work with, why keep trying to bring this one back?

Thanks for this. It was a very good write-up. I wrote off playing Black Mesa because I generally stay away from remakes if I've played the original, but you have me intrigued now. Didn't quite realize hom much was changed from the original, and it would be interesting to see all that. Plus it's been two decades.

@bigsocrates: *Hawkeye "Don't give me hope"* meme

To be honest, I've been playing these on Dolphin for a while. But if Throwback ever does anything with them, I will compensate their efforts with currency.

@gtxforza: I forgot the gen 6 entries had licensed soundtracks. That's a bummer. It wouldn't be too hard to change the music, but considering this was a niche series even back in it's prime, Throwback probably won't think it's worth the effort.

@chamurai: @gtxforza: I might be the only one excited by this, but we now know for sure that SOMEONE still holds the eXtreme G license. I hope they start doing something with it, because the games were actually pretty good, especially 3 and XGRA.

@bigsocrates: Or maybe, this was the plan all along.

*Smiles and slowly crouches behind couch*

Ron Howard narration - "This was definitely not the plan all along".

I agree it's a weird thing, but I do have a theory. After a long dark period of swings that mostly missed, Atari has finally had some success with a few classic compilations and the Recharged games. They are however, running out of things to recharge, and probably figure they need to start doing new stuff with their IPs to keep momentum going. Wayforward has has resurrected several old franchises, and my guess is Atari reached out to them because of it. My guess is Wayforward chose Yars mostly because it's one of the few old Atari games with some actual lore to work with (thin as that lore might be).
