@sinjunb: MGSV is way easier and faster to pick up, shoot things, and put down. You know this. This is a fact.

Nah, we can all read between the lines here, Caravella. You're saying games should be simple and easy and made for babies. That's what I'm getting here.

I gave up on Witcher shortly after I found Dandelion and started playing a section as Ciri, but man the Bloody Baron story was fantastic. Unless someone can truly convince me there's something else on that scale in Witcher 3, I'm basically done with it forever.

If you're super burnt-out on it I don't know that anything can 'save you'. Personally I really liked what they did with Yennefer's character, the whole Heir to the Throne storyline in Skellig (and the arcs of those sibling character), there's stuff with King Radovid and an old ally, there's some fantastic character moments when you go to Kaer Morhen, and Ciri's character becomes more and more compelling as the game goes on. There's also just a bunch of neat contracts over in Skellig, many of which have super difficult moral decisions resulting in wildly-changed outcomes.

It's hard to say why a lot of this stuff is cool without spoilers obviously, but there's basically two thirds of the game's story left after where you gave up, and all of it at least adds up to the quality of the Bloody Baron questline. Remember, it's not like the writers who did those quests just gave up afterwards, they still wrote the rest of that game, so I'd probably trust that if you thought that story was 'fantastic', you'll enjoy some of the other stuff.

This is all with the conceit that I enjoyed the game thoroughly the whole way through, and I certainly never said to myself "I'm done with this forever". So maybe our tastes are just different. At the very least though, you should check out the Hearts of Stone DLC if you can. It's arguably even better than the Bloody Baron plotline, and it's pretty much entirely separate from the main story.

Splatoon for best music? I hope they play some better samples, because what's in the recap is atrocious.

UPDATE: annnndd nope, they don't play better samples. Music from this game is garbage. Can't believe Rebel Galaxy lost to this crap.

Do you have any nostalgia for early 3D platformers? I loved the Splatoon soundtrack because it gave me some strong flashbacks to my golden years of Spyro and Crash. I feel like what I got from it what a lot of people get from certain retro chiptune soundtracks (which, with rare exception, I never understand the buzz for).

Loved the Fallout 4 Disappointment discussion, some interesting points from both sides of the table (Brad on the value of not playing 'armchair game designer', Jeff and Vinny spot on with 'you can't just say 'well they always do this'). Personally I don't find Fallout 4 too disappointing because I was kind of ready for a step-down from New Vegas now that Bethesda was back in control, and pretty much all of the emblematic problems with Bethesda Fallout were right there pre-release (focus on featureless wastelands rather than new factions, weirdly pandering save-your-family narrative, overreliance on iconic elements like Vault-Tec, Dogmeat, Nuka Cola, Mr. Handy, Brotherhood of Steel, GET YOUR PIP-BOY TODAY). At the same time, I definitely don't agree that Bethesda gets away with yet another bout of zero polish just because 'it's always their problem'.

It might be a problem of pedantry; Most Disappointing seems like it's intended as a counterpoint to Most Surprising, but I don't think something has to be a huge surprise to be incredibly disappointing (ala an addict who keeps falling out of rehabilitation). Maybe worth considering renaming it something like "Greatest Fall"?
