My Top 10 Games of 2013

Honourable mentions

Proteus Sit back, relax and explore the pixelated world of Proteus. Less of a game and more of an experience or… meditation tool… something like that! Another one for both gamers and non-gamers.
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Better than Assassin’s Creed III cos PIRATES, YARR!!

The Stanley Parable Games don’t come more meta than this!

Savant Cool little shoot ‘em up featuring the music of my newfound favourite electronic artist and based off artwork from two of his albums!

List items

  • So many firsts (I think) achieved in this game. A game that makes paperwork seem fun and makes you feel guilty for playing it properly, just a must-play!

  • A prime example of how a game can tell a story in a way that no other medium can. Gameplay simply involves walking around a house and picking up clues that tell the story, sounds dull but it is anything but! I recommend this to gamers and non-gamers alike.

  • Described as a “roguelite”, very hard but far more accessible than the average roguelike with an ingenious and charming “traits” mechanic.

  • What can I possibly say about this that hasn’t already been said? Incredible story and solid gameplay providing an intense experience (especially on hard!)

  • Beautiful world, decent combat and crazy story with an ending for which I had to seek the help of the internet to fully understand!

  • Control two characters with one gamepad to solve simple yet fun cooperative puzzles in this charming little adventure that gets darker and darker as it progresses.

  • Quality reboot with solid combat (even if the grades are too lenient) and moderately good story. Ninja Theory really pulled out all the stops here and did the franchise justice.

  • Charming JRPG beautifully animated by the legendary Studio Ghibli. Not for everyone but if you like anime and JRPGs then you can’t go wrong!

  • I know this came out in 2012 on XBLM but us PC gamers had to wait till last year and boy was it worth the wait! A 2D puzzle platformer that lets you rotate the entire world at the press of a trigger causing not only the perspective to change but also the physical properties of the world, a novel idea.

  • More open world insanity, this time with superpowers, what’s not to love!?
