I am actively working freelance right now, you can find some works at https://rhyspass.carrd.co/ and https://ko-fi.com/bugpaws/gallery

I also run a shop on etsy creating sticker designs and while I don't post much in the community I am a long time GB fan and have been featured in community spotlight :)

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the kind words :D I might do some of the rest of the guys, or at the very least Austin because his boyish charm lends well to this sort of thing.

This is two months too late, several deaths too short, and a strong reminder that when my sub comes back up, don't renew.

Wait, people died over "GamerGate"?

Okay, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that.

Well the organised campaign of hatred have led people to commit suicide, yes.

I would have thought this would be huge news, but I have never seen this anywhere. Do you have any more info?

There was a suicide of a trans employee at Riot that some anti-GG people tried to link to #GamerGate. There were some troll comments made under the #GamerGate tag though. No media outlet that reported on it linked it to #GamerGate or to her working in the games industry. I know there were some people calling it a hoax elsewhere online in the trans community, but it was later confirmed to have occurred. It was very sad to see people with various agendas on "both sides" behave so poorly over that one, though most people either didn't comment or were expressing condolences. That's the only actual death I'm aware of ever being brought up in relation to it. Maybe someone knows of other incidents.

What the actual fuck.

If that's the same trans employee I'm thinking of, I found out just hours after she tweeted about it, I saw her suicide note on Facebook. Never had met her, never knew her name until 3 hours after she passed, yet I was crying all night about it. Tragic. :( I doubt it was because of GG, though that might have added stress on top of the already stressful life transwomen have to deal with not just in this industry but all industries.

This is largely the same criticism I had for the way that the hiring panned out. I have nothing against Dan and Jason, and I do like them and their work a lot. But at the end of the day, what it boils down to is the addition of two guys that are largely the same as the existing staff for a variety of reasons. I would have much preferred more diversity in the hiring.

I'd love to see GiantBomb add a little more diversity, even if it's just testing the waters by having more guests or hiring some freelance writers (especially because hiring is so limited for the site)

Definitively. I don't think bringing in freelancers is a viable solution long-term, but it would be a great stopgap.

I'm happy with Dan here because he is a perfect match for the site but when it was first announced, I'll be honest (no offence meant, Dan, I truly love you to death) that I was upset for days knowing some of the women who threw their hat in and didn't make it instead of more cisgender white men. It can be frustrating, to say the least.

@spacekatgal: I assume you mean the staff? Cause there certainly are female users in this thread.

I assume it was a broad observation, myself being a female user in this thread at this very moment. Many of the arguments about the women who have been harassed and how valid their feelings on the matter are have, in fact, been commented on largely by men. It's just the cold, hard truth of the site's main demographic, imo.

I'd love to see some demographics information from Giant Bomb, but there is very little doubt that this thread is a grand majority male opinion.

Leads me to wonder how accurate that information would be. I know a number of users on the site that are women but choose not to disclose it or have 'male' on their profile because they are afraid of making that known on a game site. I tend not to put my gender on most sites when possible either, for that matter, because of the fear of getting harassed for it (not a cisgender man, which is as much as I'll say) so I definitely understand where they are coming from :(

Oh, I'm sure. I also agree that it's garbage that it's almost always only ever men talking about these women's issues. Just the way she worded it made it sound like a broad swath that every user in this thread was male, which was likely not her intent. I'm really glad that some ladies in this thread have been willing to mention that they are in fact women affected by this sort of thing, because we really do need more commentary from women on issues considering they are women's issues first and foremost, both from the userbase and (especially) from actual staff on games sites.

I'd also like to tell the users of Giant Bomb, my first slate of rape and death threats came in January when I wrote a piece critiquing the absence of women voting for GOTY. I'd like you to think about that.

This made me feel sick.

It's really depressing to be hyperaware of the fact that while this is the worst some of these women have dealt with, it's certainly not the start of it. :( It frustrates me that there are people out there who think its appropriate or funny to send people like Brianna Wu and Zoe Quinn threats like they've been receiving.
