Sometimes it's just the disc. I remember buying a copy of Tiger Woods 09 -- this was before you could install games -- and it would make some god-awful grinding noise whenever I played. I took it back to EB the next day, grabbed a new copy and never heard that horrible noise again.
If there were major problems, you would have heard about them already. We won't know for sure how reliable the new slim consoles are until they have been out for a year or two, but right now everything looks good.
I'd say stop shopping at Gamestop, but for once they actually had a decent promotion, so I can't fault you for going there. I had no problems buying my Slim on day one from Future Shop, a big box retailer, here in Canada. I'm sure they will be getting more in incrementally; you'll just have to be patient.
^ Exactly. If all of the slim consoles start going down in a blaze of glory like the launch 360 units, Microsoft will be forced to step-up again and extend warranties. I wouldn't worry too much though; it took Microsoft a long time to release the slim, and during that time they probably made sure that the hardware was solid. There's no way they want another RROD fiasco on their hands, especially since it cost them so much to rectify.

LOL this. You really shouldn't place such a fragile item on top of your television, but if you must, I'd recommend only using wireless controllers to prevent your console from moving. Go buy a Play & Charge kit or the Quick Charge station, and never look back.
