The Big Three Open Worlds

This list compiles the three main games that introduced me to the open world / sandbox genre, and what makes them so special to me.

This is NOT particularly a list of my favourite open world games as such or even the largest open world maps, just more of where my nostalgia lies for the open world genre.

  • I know this might be quite a polarizing game to place on the list, but this was indeed one of the first open-world games that I played. The game itself might be unfinished and poorly optimized, but it had a lot of potential regardless. The three cities you are able to explore in the game are very detailed and fun to explore. Nice and Istanbul are cities that are rarely if ever explored in games, which makes them all the more interesting here.

  • This was the first game that introduced me to the wild and wonderful series that is Grand Theft Auto. Although GTA IV is my personal favourite, there is no denying how great San Andreas truly is.
