Best of 2019

2019 was another year of pain and sorrow, in a series of bad years. For a significant part of the year I could not muster playing games, so it's been a bit of a drought anyway.

List items

  • I get it. A lot of people don't like this game.

I don't care. It's another game I can't defend, but the meditations on loneliness in this game speaks to me.

It's wonky, and despite it's amazing quality, you can really see the seams and struggles of this pretty newly set up team.

And yes, there are other problems with it. I acknowledge that, but I still think there's other things that makes it such a strong experience.

That said, it didn't hit me as strongly as MGSV did.

  • Basically tied for first. I really like Control. I feel like it's the first time that one of Remedy's game really clicks with me.

And that Ashtray maze. And... all that other stuff.

  • Feels like the game I spent the most time with in 2019, but I guess that's not true.

This is the most excited I've been about VR in some time.

  • Bias, obviously, but I like this a lot, and I wish I had spent more time with it.

    Maybe in 2020?

  • Great deckbuilding Roguelite!

  • Great Metroidvania.

  • Great roguelite!

  • I wanted to love this a lot more than I actually did.

    Still, HONK!

  • Basically tied with Goose Game, but I've been making more jokes about Goose Game more, so that wins.

I love the music, I love the art, and I love how it works.

But I lost my save, and I didn't start over.

  • Pretty great, like the storytelling, bit of a light roguelite.
