I love that they still have absolutely no idea where Vegeta's character arc is gonna lead, can't wait to see how they feel about him once the android and majin sagas roll around.

@ybbaaabby So, Patrick is almost definitely gonna get so good at repairs that he just won't die, but if you want to at least have a way to easily give him the "Seriously Fried" moodlet (the one that makes them die from their next shock), make him a Scientist and train that, and he'll eventually get access to a little workstation thing with a Big Red Button on it. Pushing the button zaps the sim into Seriously Fried even though it (i think) won't be able to kill them itself.

Still, it's an easy way to give Patrick a negative moodlet and put him at chance of death that doesn't risk winning fights with Dan and getting positive moods. And if other people are allowed to push the button too (idk if they are) it could be a good way to quickly give bad/hurt moods to anybody.

Re: Dinosaurs

Dragonball is set on a fantasy version of earth. It is anachronistic, with future tech like flying cars and super capsules but people also use swords a lot. Animals can talk sometimes, there's mythical creatures that just kinda hang out, and there are dinosaurs around. That's just how the world is. The Dragon Quest games (also by Toriyama) are very similar but just not set in the future-present.

Re: Piccolo

People in the series assumed King Piccolo was a demon rather than an alien for a long time. Piccolo (Jr) was born from king piccolo, on earth. He's technically an alien, sure, but he is from earth and he lives there.

This is a fucking joy to listen to, honestly.

The unfortunate thing about Kai is that while they cut a lot of non-narrative garbage like the power-up sequences, they also cut a lot of the charm of character moments and world building on the grounds that that's also filler or otherwise not driving the main plot. (For example, if you would watch a show about that random farmer, you'll probably be a bit disappointed to miss out on an episode where Goku and Piccolo try to drive cars, or small moments in various episodes where weird shit happens on fantasy-earth.)

...That said, Kai is absolutely still the better cut to watch as a new viewer. Just maaaaybe try to catch up a little on the handful of good filler episodes, if people can point you to them/tell you about them at the right times.

I don't think I like the idea of guests. Half of what makes this fun is the semi-purity of you guys not knowing much about it. Unless it was a guest that was there specifically to talk about things already seen, things in original Dragonball to fill in stuff, or scenes that were taken out of Kai that were in the original, with the focus on keeping it pretty pure for you guys going forward. Would lower a lot of the fun if this becomes too much of a guest thing.

Agreed with this completely. Would love to see people coming in to give you some baseline context on what you've missed from Dragon Ball or in the edited-down version of the show, but be careful about anything else because Jeff and Dan's sheer ignorance of the first-time experience is set up to be an amazing podcast.

Also hoping that you guys manage to move quicker than three episodes per week on this. Partly because this is super interesting and I'm impatient, but also because it would be easy to burn out if you're arbitrarily waiting that long.
