@merxworx01: There are nine realms in Norse mythology which is probably why they put all eight doors in Tyr`s temple even though you don`t go there. I feel like they do a decent job of setting your expectations because if you move over one of the realms you never visit while selecting a realm to go to it will say something like "Odin has sealed this realm and it will never open". That can be easy to overlook off course.

@merxworx01: You visit three realms (4 if you include Midgard) through the story and two you can unlock by collecting language ciphers.

Man, "the story was somewhat coherent by the end" is the best backhanded compliment I have heard in a long time. I laughed out loud at that.

@odinsmana: I can only speak from the perspective of an American with Italian and Irish heritage. Among Irish and Italian-Americans, it's highly common. The origin of that may be due both countries' Catholic roots, where you get a "confirmation" name, after said Confirmation, one of the sacraments of Catholicism.

That`s interesting. Thanks for the answer!

So this might be a weird question, but is it normal in the US for everyone to have a middle name? The impression listening to podcasts and watching various media is that it`s excepted that people have a middle name which is just not a thing here in Norway, so it`s something I have been wondering about.

I get weirded out every time people refer to Takeshi Kitano as Beat Takeshi, I guess it depends on where you know him from originally? But that is his comedian standup name, which he hasnt really used in decades. I know him as the guy who starred in, wrote, and directed 2 of the best movies of all time in Sonatine and Hana-bi.

He is credited in this game as Beat Takeshi, so he does apparently still use that name to some degree.

@alex@vinny Aniki means 'bro', and for most of the East Asian organized crimes (Chinese Triad, Japanese Yakuza, Korean Kkangppae), your colleagues are brothers, and very often there are rituals to take the oath to become sworn brothers. Oyaji is basically 'dad', and your crime boss is like your father.

Those things above the pants are belly warmer https://thejapans.org/2016/02/10/haramaki-the-japanese-belly-warmer/

I am planning on playing them all, just wondering if I can play 6 without getting spoiled on previous events.

If it`s similar to previous Yakuza games there will definitely be spoilers for previous Yakuza games both direct and indirect. For example this starts right after the end of 5, so it will definetly spoil stuff about the end of that game.

The story will also probably be pretty confusing if you don`t watch any of the recaps from previous games since the stories tend to build on both events and characters from previous entries.

I'm still working on Kiwami and I don't really know if I should play this before Kiwami 2 or any of the other Yakuza's. How much does 6 dive in the previous storylines and characters?

I haven`t played 6 yet, but the Yakuza games are normally fairly good at giving you recaps of the previous games. I would add though that the best way to experience the series (and especially 6 from what I have heard/seen) is to play them in order. In my opinion at least the characters are kinda more important than the plot beats in this series and the connection you feel to the characters really amplify how enjoyable the stories are and makes the emotional beats hit a lot harder. Considering 6 is billed as a send off to Kiryu I expect that having that connection with Kiryu and Haruka and their relationship is going to be pretty important.

I feel like it`s kinda like jumping into a TV series on season 6 after reading a summary of the previous seasons on Wikipedia. you`re going to understand the major plot beats, but you`ll probably miss a lot of the small details and a lot of the emotional core of the story.

Good work duder! Another couple of good additions are Iggy and Pet Shop from the Jojo`s Bizzare Adventure fighting games (Jojo`s bizare adventure (1998) and Jojo`s Bizzare Adventure: Eyes of Heaven).

I forget. Did no one on the GBEast ever play To the Moon? It's craAazy that game wouldn't have gotten brought up during the games that made you cry segment if they had. I cry during movies pretty easily I think, but I was a sobbing mess for ~2 straight hours playing that. Seeing them all play through that while drinking and crying would be my personal favorite feature on this site ever.

Alex mentioned having played it in the Quick Look of the sequel. He was the on that had the most examples, so he probably just forgot to mention it.

So you have a firm grasp of the beliefs of every other game you have spoken about in the past? I mean you've spoken a lot about Detroit and if im not mistaken you guys are still covering that game so what gives?

At this rate, you can probably make the crude and blunt (and probably still accurate) conclusion that having the creative lead on a game and a co-founder of a studio being a public... "questionable statement maker and social media presence" is going to have provoke responses among individuals and groups. And things would be different if the person was a bit more private or discrete.

If this is to be taken further in to more reductive and crude, maybe you just found out where the radar lines are drawn.

Several high-profile games are made by undergoing punishing periods of crunch that are later reported. The staff are okay with playing such games, and lamenting on audio and video when they hear the crunch news.

David Cage is writing increasingly larger thematic checks that can't be cashed while having a studio culture shitty enough to be written about in the French press. But that doesn't seem to have completely evaporated the goodwill from Heavy Rain's ambitions.

Now we have Kingdom Come, a game in a genre where I can't recall anyone on staff being particularly enthusiastic for outside major franchise entries, and where a prominent member of the developer has a PR and social media presence that might drudge up some bad memories of the Endless August 2014. Looks like that's the one-two step that is (for now) putting game out of the staff's scope.

I think you`re totally correct. I also think the type of bad behavior means a lot with the GB crew. A developer with bad views (even when these views do not affect the game) is worse in their eyes than a developer with horrible working practices. It seems this way at least since they are fine with covering L. A Noire, Kerbal Space Program and Metal Gear Survive, but will not even mention Hat in Time or Kingdom Come.
