Best first person melee combat in a game is The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. If you haven't played it I highly recommend it. Not just for the melee combat, it's a brilliant game overall.
I'd rather read threads about random weird topics then a discussion about how to beat a specific boss or what class is best in some game. Maybe I'm just weird.
When I was living in a house with other people I would always have them on in case someone came in and started talking to me or was being noisy or something. Now that I live alone I always turn them off, I find them distracting and the game is more engaging without them.
They play the game how they personally would play the game, then write up their own opinions, and give full disclosure about the manner in which they played it. It is then up to the reader to decide how relevant this is to their own situation and tastes.
Reviewers are not arbiters of quality, they are human beings. Give them a break.
