I had a rough time starting off as well (Blood and Broken Bones) until I got used to the dodge and learned how to play footsies. Sometimes you can dodge before an enemy attacks and they'll swing right past you, roll away for more dangerous attacks like AoE's and charges. Parry seems superfluous, doesn't come with a counter and many attacks will stun you if you try to parry/block, I might be missing something there. As an item hoarder I'm naturally averse to alchemy/bombs, but the advantages are decisive. The enemy aggression on higher difficulties can force you to get creative which has been a lot of fun.

Quen/Axii (seem popular) to fill in the gaps like when you're smacked in the face while you're busy spinning and twirling in a startup animation. Hard to tell which attack animation you're gonna get, but I think that's intended to be part of the rhythm of combat in this game.

I'm trying to incorporate heavy attacks, they have their perks but I end up just using Axii on stubborn enemies. I'm wondering if going all-in on light or heavy as opposed to hybrid is pure preference, hard to tell this early on. I've seen people cry OP for just about every branch of the tree so far, which I take to be a good sign.

I just find it funny that so many people care about if jeff likes it. Is his validation that important?

Your insulting question about validation is trolling.

I was just listening to Bombcast from early 2011 where the team is being dismissive of Demon Souls. At one point Jeff actually says the controls are bad. It is extremely interesting to see Brett coming around on a game in this series and giving it a chance.

Hardly, but maybe I phrased my initial sentiment wrong. It's more like people want him to like it and the Souls games so bad. He tried the earlier games before, gave them a chance, and didn't like them for clear reasons. People couldn't accept him just not liking it and it not being his cup of tea; they needed him to like it and want to play it His opinions were wrong because clearly he didn't understand it enough. I can tell he was more into Bloodborne because of the fundamental changes in movement and gameplay.

Nobody is forcing or needing Jeff to do anything. People are just excited about his growing interest and curious about his take on the game. Why? Why do any of us visit this site?

As it turns out people have and will continue to enjoy these games on their own merits without having to be validated by any one person. I just find it strange when "I'm curious what ___ has to say about this" is always taken to the absolute extremes of escapism and delusion. Most of us are adults who are capable of thinking for ourselves and don't need your snide remarks to remind us.

I don't blame you though, the Souls community can be so far up its own ass that it can't see straight, and it has only gotten worse over the years.

Good enough for me, the load times for larger areas were basically the only thing stopping me from doing multiple playthroughs and the difference already feels significant. I'm more curious about framerate drops, it's been reported a lot of cases have been fixed (fog wall, witch summon in Chalice dungeon, etc).

A weird bug where your bloodstain mysteriously disappeared into the Lecture Building if you reloaded the game has been fixed, I had inadvertently lost many blood echoes before I knew about this. People say the memory leak has been fixed as well but I'll need to see for myself.

There's also a hefty amount of gameplay changes too, notably changes to QS bullet usage on several items (my favorite being Hunter Bone 6 to 5) and new invisible walls that prevent skips such as the one from the Clinic to Forbidden Woods.

Great patch, I feel invigorated to continue playing. Although I think people are getting hungry for main hand weapon adjustments.

Definitely a bug, I ran into the same thing myself. At the time I just chalked it up to another layer of bullshit to the fight.

It seems unrelated to memory leak because I've seen videos of him locked into only using swipe attacks and the player was still able to rally. No idea on a fix, but it's the only place in the game where I had this problem. I don't think it's worth remaking though, you wanna try to stay topped off against this guy anyway.

I could never get this to work in a loop, I had the most success running in and out of the room from the Clinic lamp.

The interesting takeaway for me is even with 50 points in a stat your damage is still nothing to write home about, it's by and large from weapon upgrades (increased base+scaling) and gems. Although it's still amusing to drop a 1200+ visceral on Papa Gas. I think you can get a +8 weapon relatively quick if you rush Cainhurst, Nightmare Frontier, and grab the one Chunk in Forbidden Woods, just enough to reach 8 Chunks and you get plenty of Twin Shards along the way.

One important thing about the skip, you can kill Fake Iosefka before she replaces the real one, she never aggros and she drops the umbilical cord. You can then return later to kill her again for the Oedon Writhe rune (+2 bullets on visceral).

As others have said, just having another warm body there to distract the AI even for a moment gives you much more breathing room to attack, heal, make dinner, buff, etc. From a raw mechanics standpoint that just takes the fun away from me personally, but everyone has a tipping point of how many hits you need to win vs how fast and easily you can get dead. So I don't think that necessarily means surrender, and the boss at Cainhurst is some serious shit if you're not armed to the teeth!

I will say some the later Chalice bosses tested my resolve, I would've summoned constantly if I didn't have such a hard time finding people. And while I prefer to take on bosses solo, it's always fun to help others out, especially against a real tough motherfucker. It's also just fun to see different quirks and playstyles.

Welp, I managed to beat the Queen chalice boss. My commitment to using only the Rifle Spear and the Stake Driver almost drove me mad in a few of the fights, but I made it. It's good to get that off my plate so I can take a breather from Bloodborne and collect my thoughts before writing something a little more in-depth. The Chalice Dungeons certainly proved to be an interesting element in the game. I may dive back into them at some point to see if I can get any worthwhile loot, but I need a break for now.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on both weapons, I've dabbled in both but haven't taken them through the nitty gritty of endgame. My impressions are the Stake Driver R1's are deceptively fast, the pilebunker R2 is very useful for bosses with long staggers like Watchdog. For the Rifle Spear I often end up using it 1h to chase bosses down, the first hit of the 2h R1 has lackluster range that I'm often punished for and while everyone hypes up the 2h R2, it borders on unusable for fast bosses and some will even dodge out of the way if you try to cheese them like regular enemies.
