I can't believe this feature is still going. It was pretty evident even after a few episodes how poorly thought out it was. They're lucky they're playing on the stupidly easy normal mode and had incredible luck to boot or they would have lost long ago.
What this feature really needed was people actually interested in the game, aka no Dan and Abbey, and the episodes need to be longer so they actually remember and get a feel for the game.
Imagine how Kerbal Space Program would have turned out if they switched people every week and played 30 minutes at a time.
This series is a wreck and reminds me a bit of PUBG. Towards the end it was plainly obvious they were just playing for the sake of playing rather than actually liking the game which just sucks the fun out of it. Quite a few of GBeast's features feel rushed like they have other places to be and this was another example. Dan seems like he doesn't care and it shows but at least Vinny is hands off with him. Abby doesn't like the game and not only does it show, it sucks the life out of the episodes where she is playing. Vinny is also incredibly hands on when she's playing. What is even the point of having different commanders when Vinny dictates every move. That leaves Alex the only one who seems to be enjoying the game.
I'd much rather watch someone play conservatively that actually likes the game and wants to play any day of the week.
My most recent playthough I did when they started this series, I never actually got the mission. I don't remember my other well enough. The Xcom wiki says it's the first council mission after you first encounter chryssalids.
Xcom on normal is a cakewalk other than that base assault that catches people off guard so it should be clear sailing here on out...as long as Dan doesn't get the Newfoundland mission. If Abby got it, Vinny would just take over every move like he did for the base assault.
This series reminds me of the East crew playing Xcom. Very very slowly getting better but still ignorant of basic mechanics despite being deep into the game.
Abby is bumming me out because she clearly doesn't want to play the game and has no interest in trying. I don't want to watch her play a perfect game, but I also don't want to watch her play like this. The charm of this feature is the play style of each individual - Dan is at least having fun and playing to his persona, Alex is a timid fucking beast, Abby just...struggles and whines?
This is exactly how I feel too. Not interested, doesn't know the basics, and whining make for a good trifecta of terrible content....sounds exactly like her performance in PUBG as well.
